I have been casually looking for a running or rebuildable 455 Olds engine for my 75 Hawaiian project. Several people that I have talked with say they have big block 350 Olds Rocket engines. Is there any such thing as a big block Olds 350 engine?

No. 455's have taller cylinders and measure about 12 inches between cylinder heads. 350's are much narrower. After seeing a few, you will be able to recognize them by sight. Look on the web at Mondello's site for info.

Thanks Jim, Purely out of curiosity, are the exhaust manifolds interchangable between the 455 and the 350? Would my 455 logs fit the 350?

Jet novice,I was told the 350 olds "big Block"name came from the fact that it was physically larger than the 350 Chevy.Mondello is a key source to olds info,as stated above.I am not sure about the exhaust. There have been several past postings about Olds 455's in these forums and if you have some time check out the other lists such as v-drive,jet performance, and blower motors. Some 455's may be for sale in the classified section.Good Luck,DEL51

My neighbor builds go fast Olds and told me that the BIG inch motors and the SMALL inchers use heads that are interchangable with few exceptions. The difference being the deck height between big and small blocks. I don't know for sure and better advice than mine is needed here. LDFTRBT

Oxymoron-a figure of speech in which opposite or contradictory ideas or terms are combined e.g.:
awfully good
thunderous silence
fast Olds
fast jet-oops I own a jet
fast Ford-sorry SVO540&nitro557

These guys are right the main differance between big and small olds is the deck hieght and mian jurnal dia. 350 heads will fit a 455 but somtimes the bolt holes will need to be drilled out larger. Exhaust manifolds will inter change. What your friend might have is a bored and stroked DX block. If done correctly this can net you 454 cid. I run a set of 7 castings heads on my big olds. The reason for it is more quench area. Also too there is more material to play with in the intake port.I also spun out a set of off set valve guides to acomidate larger valves.
