Does anyone know if it is legal to tow two trailers in tandem in California and Arizona if both trailers are tags? I've seen it done with fifth wheels or goose necks but not two tag trailers. I would like to tow two boats back to Florida if I can.

You can pull two here and NM but not in Texas. Oklahoma is okay. Look in your atlas and the info should be there. Thee are length limits tho.

The first trailer has to be gooseneck or 5th wheel in Az for sure and Cali for almost sure. I wouldn't want to pull 2 tags as there is lots more whip by the time to get to the back of the last trailer.

Nope. Better check it out. Mine were two trailer hitch and they pull great. This is only leagal in select states. I have done this 4 or 5 times. The gooseneck or 5th wheel is legal in almost every state.

To be legal you have to have a "doubles&triples" endorcement on your licence!.. Also you can't have the same hitch on both trailers, and 65' is max in lenght!..

CA is definately 5th wheel/gooseneck tag, no two-tags here. I think there's license req's also.

Truck weight has to be 4000 lbs. or more also! The weight of your truck is on your reg. My 1/2 ton came in @ 4047 lbs. I would use a 3/4 ton or larger, pretty hard on the little 1/2 ton .......................C'mon! :hammerhea

Yep. I think the fifth wheel has to have electric brakes also. You have to get the doubles endorsement on your CDL as well..

in cal. the trailer hitched to the truck has to be a gooseneck or a fifth wheel then the tag follows, not exceeding 65 feet bumber to bumber.as far as the license doubles/triples endorsement, basicly it's a class A non commercial electric brakes license. my dad has this license to pull his fifth wheelhouse trailer and then the malibu skier behind it . he uses a f350 crew cab dually to pull it all. you have to keep in mind braking power. hope this helps.

I believe that both trailers are supposed to have some type of brakes. In Az, you don't need a CDL to pull doubles in a non-commercial light class vehicle.

Perfectly fine in CA with Class-A license with doubles endorsement. Fifth wheel with a pull on the back is nicer, but not necessary. Nothing illegal about double-pulls, unless you're not licensed for it or over 65'.

Thanks for the reply's. I might have to try stacking them. Neither one has an engine so they don't weigh too much.

I got a speeding ticket in California and the officer said he didn't think it was legal. But he just gave me a warning. I found out that it is legal to pull two tags if you have the proper endorsement on your license. I didn't, but I talked to a guy at the DOT that said he doubted anyone would pull me over just to check for the endorsement. So I decided to chance it. I had a DOT guy look it over at the check point in Arizona but he didn't say anything. Just made me sweat a little.

I know it is legal in CA if you have the dbl endors on you DL. If you chance it, the only real issue is insurance. If you stacked the whole thing up and tried to get ins to cover, they would say you were "out of class" on your DL and they could dismiss the claim.
I'm glad you made it safely.
