What kind of fuel pressure should a Holley Red have? I currently have about 31/2-4 lbsand cant get any more than that. Is the pump on its way out??

You should get more than that I would think.Take the bottom plate off and clean out the vain area.Might have some rust or crap in there. Its not hard to take apart... :D
BTW,I love that member # !!!!Now come on home son!! :D :D

Joe, are you running a regulator between the pump and the carb or are you letting the floats do all the work? It doesn't matter anyway, but just another thing to kick around. I'd pull the base plate on the pump. Should be 4 screws. Check out the gasket, the vanes (they'll slide right out of the rotor on some models) and there should be some kind of a check ball pressure release deal in there (it's been a while) but rebuild kits are readily available for them. Hope that helps. :D

I was keeping a spare Holley red pump on the boat. Every once in a while the black or blue pump would act up. I'd throw the red one on and it'd run all weekend. However, it only maintains about 4=5 pounds pressure. If I wind it up, the pressure drops to about 3 and I back off.

Thanks for the help guys, I pulled base plate and kinda cleaned things up a little and I have about 41/2-5 lbs now, I'm leaving to the river tonight and I could'nt find a new one so I will keep an eye on it this weekend. Thanks again

Holley pumps... my experience with them after running several for years... marginal. Problem is they are very suceptible to corrosion from any moisture in the fuel. The little vanes (steel) must slide freely to work properly (interpreted pumping fuel at proper pressure). Any corrosion can prevent one or more of the vanes from moving...a problem. Then the corrosion wipes out the little seal and they start leaking fuel. If you don't catch it it overworks the motor (interpreted as frying the little motor). In a perfect world they work great. Goes downhill from there.
I switched to Mallory geroter design on my ski racer after going through about 4 Holley's. Had no more problems after that. I think Mallory and Aeromotive are both better and more durable designs for marine use.

Hey Rexone, what do you stock for a return style regulator? I'm looking for something with a -8 in, two -6's out to the carbs and a -8 or -10 return to the tank.

Mallory makes a 3 port (3/8 NPT) with return bypass - part #4309
Also a 5 port with -10 inlet and returns and -8 outlets.
We don't stock these but can special order for you, also they are not marine approved (an issue on some boats)
Aeromotive makes a couple different ones also that are nice.
A2000 has -10 inlet and return ports, and (4) -8 outlets.
A1000 has -10 inlet, -8 return, and (2) -6 outlets. Probably the one you want. Also has 1/8 NPT gauge port and is boost referencable.
We are just taking on the Aeromotive line and I don't have stock yet but will within about 3 weeks.
Let me know if we can be of help to you.
