All I can say is if you live between the 118 and the 101 you better start packin. Areas like box canyon, bell canyon, etc are in the path. If the wind doesn't stop, its gonna reach the 101 freeway pretty fast. And if it makes it over the 101, its gonna be in Malibu.
Fires have taken this path many times in the past.......

I just tried to get out to the valley from Simi about am hour ago and the freeway is shut down. My house is on the east end of Simi too. It's gonna be a long night. Is the fire on the north side of the 118 or the south right now?
AlColeHolic better load those bikes up.

its getting pretty close to Santa Susana pass road. Box Canyon is next in line from what I can tell. That whole area is very very thick with brush and trees. From the looks of it, they ain't putting this thing out anytime soon.
But unless the wind starts blowing more westerly, Simi shouldn't be in the path at all. I'd worry if your in the area adjacent to box canyon going south west.

I just looked on the CHP website and it just jumped the tracks and is heading down the pass toward "ALCO". Could be in MAlibu in 2 hours???

I have the best view in town!!! My office is just south of The Chatsworth Reservior in West Hill. I can look right out the window and see the whole fire!!!
Sigalert.com shows the 118 closed east bound and 1 lane open west bound. Box Cyn is soooooo smoked out, that even if it were open you'd never see enough to make it through.
Traffic will be bad for anyone going from SFV to Simi or T.O Lucky for me, I'm 15minutes away via side streets :D :D

Yeah, my house is right below there off of Katherine. I should be OK, unless it burns through a couple hundred houses before it hits mine. I'm not going anywhere for awhile.
Good thing is, my office is off Madera and it looks like all these plans sitting on my desk are going to get bid tonight.
Bad thing is, my "yard" is in the knolls with my trailer, motorhome, and boat. Luckily, I've taken the boat and motorhome out last night being that we are going to Havasu this weekend. Could have been bad for State Farm.

It's almost BBQ time right now !! The flames are raging out of control in Box Cyn. The wind has backed off a bit, but if it keeps moving this way, I'd guess they'd kick us out of this building.

I know the guy that built that house. I walked through it when they were about 90% done. The owner is a probate lawyer that did the Getty family. That place is crazy. They have the natural rocks plumbed for their hottubs. And water running through the natural landscape. It looks like it's always raining with the streams flowing around their house.

C'mon now, the fact that the hurricane was named and tracked for a week wasn't enough warning for some to come up with an evacuation plan. Guess the guy in the trailer should have looted a Best Buy and gotten a plasma to watch it on. ;)

I'll, tell you vegetation fires are the worst, with the wind changes and the terrain that needs to be covered, trying to lay hose up and over hills,No repiratory protection, unless you consider a bandanna over your face respiratory protection, your nose running and eyes burning, sucking in that smoke for hours on end. Thanks to Arnold if I or any firefighter develops lung cancer they will have to prove that it was job related before workers comp. benefits will kick in.

As someone already mentioned, this sucker will probably go all the way to the beach.(again).....The news just said it is upon Las Virgines canyon rd, N/east of the 101, but headed there shortly. After the 101 its a sure bet it'll make the beach before it stops..........I heard on the news eariler that the fixed wing water tankers won't be on line until this Saturday, the 1st. Not contracted until then so this fire just burns as the choppers can't carry enough water, or make enough drops to really do anything other than save houses, which they are up there doing in the dark RIGHT NOW!! Looking at the Thomas guide it is hard to tell exactly where the really hot spots are, but it is now well into Ventura county. As said, no way those firemen/firewomen make enough. Maybe the suits in Sacramento should try fighting fires, and living on the same wages that the firefighters make.............MP

I'm absolutely amazed that the firefighters were able to save homes and mobile homes in Box Canyon and Woosley Canyon. I ride my motorcycles in those canyons all the time. The area is totally overgrown with 100 year old oak trees growing over the tops of homes and in some cases homes were built around oak trees. The area also is overgrown with 10-30 foot high vegetation that goes up like explosives.
Bell Canyon is more defensable and better designed for fires.
That whole area west of the 118 all the way to the 101 hasn't burned since the 50's. There is nothing the firefighters can do to stop it. They can steer it a little and save homes but that's about it. If the wind doesn't stop soon, the entire area from Hidden Hills to Oak Park (maybe farther) is gonna burn all the way to the 101. If I lived in the area south of the freeway at Liberty Canyon, I'd be quakin in my boots about now. That is where the fire will probably cross on its way to PCH....
This fire moved so fast with 50mph winds that there is no way they could warn everyone in its immediate path it was coming. But there was so much smoke, ash, and fire, I cannot imagine someone not seeing it coming....

As far as I know, they saved all the structures in Woosley. But most of the vegetation is gone. Not sure how the fire impacted Rocketdyne. But it burned all around there too. (SCARY).
I think there are still some spot fires going on all throughout that area.
BTW - This fire was seperate from the Browns Canyon fire earlier that morning in Chatsworth.

I'm alive. Everything is cool here. I have a headache and my house smells like a campfire though. And my pregnant GF has been inhaling smoke all day and night and I'm sure my little unborn 7 month boy is pissed right now.
We are leaving for Moabi in a couple hours so it'll be nice to get away from this shit for a couple days.
I feel for the firefighters. They DO love it though. That's why they do it. Either way it's a tough job.
I know MBrowns house is relatively close to the burn areas but he is far enough in to not have an issue. Unless he bought up on a hill recently that I don't know about.
The sky is a creepy color orange right now. We had a couple job in the Conejo valley/Malibu areas evacuated.

Badaxe has moved to Vegas I believe. He was in Oak Park which is in the path.
I heard the fire is going west across the mountain tops and burning both north and south sides. So Woodranch in Simi is on watch and Westlake/T.O is also nervous. With the size, weather conditions and a nice breeze this thing has no intentions of slowing down until it hits the 101 or the coast. When I walked out to my truck to get something a half hour ago I counted 17 fire trucks going up Roscoe to hit this thing. There were trucks from as far as Santa Fe Springs coming in to help.

my apartment complex is apparently being evacuated...haven't tried to go over that way in an hour or two. going home on the 30, looked to be tucked back on the otherside of the hill

Any fire sales around here? I got a fire in my belly....., you're fired, how about some wood fired pizza's,....ok enough of the fire jokes..
Back from Vegas...it was a great time...coming back into town today was crazy....running down LA by the train station Air Tankers passing overhead at 1000 ft dropping $hit on the fire tardent...bitchen stuff. My buddy who is LA County Fire text messages me...."Why don't you bring me a cold beer since I am sweating my ass off saving your house"....
Just to be safe we will be evacuating to NYC in the morning....on the way back from there we will stay in Parker to make sure all the hot spots, smoke and ash are gone from around here...:):):):)

We were just on highway 5 in L.A. tonight and the smoke was horrible.
I feel for the people who live around that area, must be hard to breathe

On the news they are calling it "Redlands". lol. I guess that's easier for people to understand.
Smells like a nice bbq. mmmmmmmmmmm
We'll be fine. It's going the other way.
There's two fires burning out your way. The one that started at the chicken ranch and BBQ'd 90,000 chickens is called the redlands fire. The one you're talkin about is above Mentone. Seen it burning for two days now but has stayed really small, almost like a controlled burn?

I knew I smelt a bbq last night. :)
I know about the Redlands fire. It was the first one on the south side of Redlands by San Timiteo Canyon.
The Mentone/Yucaipa/Thurman Flats fire north of me they were calling the Redlands fire on the news last night. They were on highway 38 which they shut down. I think they said it started somewhere around Bryant and 38.

...well, finally was able to get back to the oriffice this morning without a hitch! What a crazy few days it's been....the fires 2 years ago were at my back yard at home, this time they were close to the shop! Funny, I spent a couple of hours in Ventura Wednesday getting all my licenses and business doc's done for the showroom and on the way home I found out there was fires going on close to the shop...I'm thinking great, I just did all this and the f'n building is gonna go up!! The Cantina across the street almost went up that night around 2 am....had to evac Gramma B a couple of times cause she's in the heart of the Knolls....then it got close to my sis and inlaw who recently finished a home there too....It was damn close up there for sures!

I forgot how close you were to fire. So glad to hear they save yours and your family's structures. Big sigh of relief ehh? The hills on the south side of the valley look like the moon.... :( So sad cause they were so great to look at. Oh well - no fires for years now and it will grow back.
