I have had discussions on this from friends that also grew up as military brats. Without a doubt most military brats like miracle whip. I think it was becasue of the cost of mayonaise -vs- mw and military families being on a budget.
Being a military brat and one of six it was the cost. But boy do i love my whip :D

from a chef's eye it depends on the bread type for all rye's, sourdough's and whole grain wheat you gotta go with the mayo you want a milder taste so it wont over power the bread but for cheap bread like whites, cheap wheats and cheap kaiser rolls the need a miracle
