I need a set of replacement heads for what I was always led to believe was an LS6 motor. The casting number on what I am replacing is 6272990 which, depending on which site I go to, is either an LS6 or LS7. I might have a line on replacements but the casting number on them is 14096188. From what I come up with, I am about 90% sure these will work but wanted to 2X check before I pull the trigger.

Yes, the 188 are factory replacements for the 990's.

According to Mortec... both are rectangular port, open chamber heads. The 990's show a 118cc chamber volume, the 188's show a 116cc chamber, basically identical. A few fragments of an increase in compression from the 188's but not enough to get excited about I think, unless you are on the ragged edge of compression tolerance already.

What's the diff between the 088s and the 188s? And/or are they interchangeable?

the 088s are genV heads. not recommended to use on mark IV blocks.

Bite the bulit and buy a set of Merlin heads. Out of the box they not only make more power but by the time you build factory heads you have stepted backwards... I have several factory heads waisting space because of the options offered by after market dealers... NO SALES PITCH, just comen sence...
