I want to check my bearings on my ford big block (460). What is the proper way to remove a main bearing and a rod to inspect them. What is the proper way to retorque them. What should I look for to see if they are good,
I overheated my motor bad and I want to play it safe by checking my bearings.

Just loosen the bolts on the rod and main, tap on the side of the main cap lightly to loosen from the block, the rod, I use a dead blow hammer that is plastic and tap on the rod bolts after the nuts are off to get the cap to come loose then just pull it off. If the brgs are blued or black, not good, if there is a bunch of copper showing not good. If they look like this your screwed. http://www.hotboatpics.com/pics/data/500/19MVC-005bF-med.jpg

If you are tearing it down that far, mike the crank, and spend the minimal bucks on new bearings.

i JUST DID A FULL ENGINE JOB AND THE CRANK WAS 20/20 GRIND BUT SINCE I OVERHEATED IT I WANT TO CHECK THE BEARINGS FIRST.
I'LL TAKE SOME PICTS IF I EVER GET ANY TIME TO JUMP IN TO IT.
