Ok, I was going to try and get a new steering cable for my '73 Kona, but the rack in this thing is so old it looks like it's probably going to be cheaper to replace entirely. I've been looking and see there are a couple different ways to go. Can anybody fill me in on the pros and cons on the rack versus the rotary set-ups? It looks like most of the boats like mine are running the rack, but it seems like a rotary would take up less room behind the dash. Is there a problem with a rotary steering a Berkeley? Money wise it's pretty much a wash either way so is there one that works better for a jet boat application for whatever reason? Just looking for opinions before buying.

I would buy what my boat came with only to keep the dash from getting all butchered up. The less holes you drill the better. Just my .02

Replaced mine last winter. Hardin Marine Rack setup identical to my old one. I also bought the stainless steel cable (extre $20 or so). Was an easy install and SOOOO MUCH BETTER than the 27 year old setup that was in it. Tighter where it ought to be (the rack & pinion), and loose where it ought to be (the cable). It's a 1-finger steer now at idle, & not much more at speed. Best $150 I spent on her yet.
