Anyone have experience with the various brands of HEI for the Olds. I have points right now and I'm thinking of upgrading. To at least a stock GM HEI if not something nicer. I see DUI and Pertronics now have an HEI for the 455 but... does one of you know if there is a difference between an automotive HEI and a marine HEI for the Olds? I know the points distributers are sheilded to prevent explosion but is this nessesary with the HEI?

On my 455 in the suburban, it had a lot of Miles (about 210,000) switched to the Stock HEI and opened up the plug gap, immediatly picked up the performance pulling in this old tired motor, also used more Oil I figure it was burning it rather than fouling plugs. You get more spark, no question.

Has anyone tried one of these cheap ebay HEI's. Can't beat the price for new. Unless of course they are total junk. :rollside:

I bought one of those for a BBC in my boat 2 years ago. Still works but when I went to tailor the advance curve there was a slight wall. the stock GM weights and plate did not match up. so it is kind of a bastard chinese deal. I was able to get it curved close to what I wanted but in the end I would buy something better. again it has NOT given me any trouble but I only run 4600 with about 350 horse BBC. R.B.

Somebody at work offered to give me a stock HEI out of an old Cutlass wagon. I figure I'll give that a shot as long as nobody thinks there is an explosion issue. I know exploding yourself is very popular in Iraq now, but I don't feel like being trendy.
