Any opinions on easiest way to go about this?Currently motor is 92 350mag.,dart iron eagle 2.05 int.,215cc runners,72cc chambers, crower roller split duration .520? lift,(cam card at work)1.5 roller rockers,B&M 144 at 7lbs. My question is,should I build my tired 2 bolt roller block to 377 with steel crank and forged pistons and rods,or does someone offer a 377 4 bolt short block assembled.I have about $2400 to work with, just looking to get the short block done at this point.

hey buy a stroker kit for a 383' chevy,,a 350 block with 400 crank...the 377is justthe opposite a 400 block with a 350 crank....try ohio crankshaft....goodluck

I thought the 377 was 4" bore like the 350.I haven't heard good things about 383's like the rod/stroke ratio, externally balanced etc. I'm mainly looking to upgrade internals for the 7 lbs. boost, and pick up a little displacement since I can't go too far with the 144.

A 377 can either be 4.000 x 3.75, or 4.150 x 3.48. The really great thing about the long stroke 383 (4.030 x 3.75) is the torque increase. It really makes a noticeable difference in real world performance on the water. Flatlander (http://www.flatlanderracing.com) has some nice deals on rotating assemblies and complete short blocks. To stay within your budget, you would likely be better off sticking with your block, especially if you can do the assembly work yourself.

My 383 is a .030 over 350 and a 3.75 stroke (with 5.7" rods). It is also internally balanced.

Damn I screw that quote thing up every time! Anyway, that looks like where I'll end up as my cylinders will likely need .030 bore. Any way to squeeze a 6" rod on this setup?

Hey thanks H.H. If memory serves on a previous post you said you were running a scat crank.I'll look into them too.How much performance increase did you get going to 383? By the way,I got a line on a brand new in box 144 for $1600 complete, the guy needs money. It's the polished Holley kit.He is firm at that price though.

Dollar for HP, you'd be hard pressed to beat a SBC. I went from 300(280)HP to 450HP without a hiccup. However, it's the torque that you really notice. I've got 466ft-lbs, and over 400ft-lbs from 2,800 RPMs and up. You'd swear there was a BBC under the hatch.
That blower sounds tempting, but I don't think my 10-1 pistons would welcome any boost. However, if I dropped my compression, and added some boost, I bet I'd get around 550HP with a decent idle. Not bad for a little mouse motor.
Hmmmmm....

We've got a 377" SBC and it's a great engine. .030 over 400 block w/ splayed caps, 6" Lunati rods, 14:1 BRC pistons, 230 Iron Eagles, Comp Cam roller. The 377 will spin to 8200 rpm all day and makes 565 hp w/ a single 4 bbl. Ilike the 377 over a 383 if you want to rpm the motor. For torque the 383 is stronger, but if you want r's build a 377.
