When is the last time the pump was looked at? Overheating is one indication of pump attention needed.

no it over heated from putting on the pressure regulator that every one was talking about, pulled it off and put just ball valve , later plan to put a thermo kit that a fellow boater will fabricate for me. But first back to the gaskets, any recommended brands and parts#

I suspect the gaskets blew from being overheated. I would not just change them. I would surface the block and heads also.
Cannot help with part numbers. Need to wait for a Ford guy.

Do you use studs on the heads and are they o-ringed? I built an FE 427 for the cousins Galaxie and we couldn't keep head gaskets from blowing. The 10 head bolts have always been an issue with fords. The final teardown was a set of studs and o-ringed the heads. So far it has been 2.5 yrs with no problems. BTW it has 12.5 compression with the edelbrock heads.

Brendella, sorry you have to go through all of this crap. Sounds like a $&%^#* nightmare. :( Hang in there though. I know this does not help you personally, but your troubles and your publishing of them for others will save others from having your problems as they assemble their motors for the new season. Hang in there brother and hope to see you on the water this summer ....without the gasket problems...Joe

KF, Why is the 10 bolt head any more of a problem on a BBF than the Mopar? I run 12.4 to 1 in a 427 Fairlane and its been together for many years and it runs on 92 oct. with no problems. Sounds like you may have a detonation problem kicking out those head gaskets.

I couldn't tell you. I saw no signs of detonation. Plugs looked good with no spotting. Ran real good. I backed the timing down thinking that but it didn't help. Right now it runs 34 degrees total with no problems.

KF, Beautiful Galaxie. Is it an orig. R code? I have had very little head gasket problems with FE and 460s however I think I found the upper limit for the 460 and thats about 15lbs of boost without O rings and using the Fel-Pro 1018 gasket. :D

Nope its not an R code car. It was purchased off of an old lady in Oakland. 32k miles black on black, 390 and a 4 spd. After I did the drive train it was sent to Sanderson and they made a set of headers. Since then we found a set of factory cast headers and they are on there now. Its a fun car to drive and is a daily driver.

Well check everything out guess it was loos headers
the intakes look good and the head gaskets look good, this is a relief.
I think that the flakes are from my privios bearing damage, so I am going to pull the lifters out and flush the motor with a primer.and going to put a magnet in the pan just to catch any real metals.
I will post picts and thanks for the replys.
p.s. no the heads are not studed will do this in the future when aluminum falls into place. :D
