The helicopter (if it is the one in the DCB pictures) belongs to pilot. His name is Randy.
It does not belong to DCB or Dave.
Let us know any other info that comes up as you get it. Thanks.

I just spoke with my brother, who is a reserve with Avalon City FD. He said, the first report was that the copter crashed, then heard it landed on one of the west beaches. Apparently, L.A. County and Redondo Beach Coast Guard are handling it. He was going to try to get more info.

Anyone who survives a copter crash is extremely, extremely lucky. Those folks musta been on Santa's List for bein good. A copter has a glide ratio like a Freight Train.

Here is the deal....
It was Randy. He and a friend were in is helicopter. They were flying around and he caught a skid on some power lines. The helicopter flipped over and crashed. A nother friend of his was in another helicopter and watched the whole thing. The second copter landed (one skid on the ground because there was no flat place to land) and that passenger jumped out to try and help. Both people on board survived however, Randy is having some trouble breathing. He could really use your prayers right now.
I will post more as I get more info.

Randy is a very good friend of mine. Please pray for him, he is not doing well. I tried to call him right when this thread broke to make sure it wasn't him, but no answer. Then I found out he was going to Catalina for lunch with a friend. Stevey and Mike (some other friends) were in the other helicopter. From what I heard he caught a wire and went down. Luckily Stevey was there and let Mike out to help. Randy is an awesome pilot, I fly with all the time, along with my kids and wife. He also does all the flying for Hot Boat and DCB.
Lets all pray for him please.

Stevey and Mike are staying on the island tonight from what I heard. I'll keep you guys posted.
The passenger with Randy was Joe, a business partner of his. Randy managed to unstrap and get out of the copter but was bleeding bad from his mouth and was having a hard time breathing. Joe was unconcious, bleeding from his mouth still buckled in. Both are in very serious condition.

Being a fixed-wing pilot, I know emergencies can be hairy. Rotorcraft are even touchier / much more complex.
That being said, if any and all parties survived, someone was an excellent pilot. Whatever was going on, he had his hands full.

The latest information I have gotten this morning is that Randy is doing well. They may even be moving him to a hospital much closer to his home. That is great news. Joe is not doing as well. This morning they put a wedge (not sure if that is the correct term) in his brain to help releave some pressure from the head trama. Also, one of his lungs is full of blood and the other is partially full. He is in a medically induced coma at this time. Please continue to pray for him. I will post more info as I get it.

I have had the honor of knowing Randy and flying with him once.He is a presice and safe pilot and always dots his I's and crosses his T's. If anyone has been around ***boat or Powerboat evaluations, you know Randy. I know pilots and I classify him as one of the safest I have ever met. He would never put himself or anyone else in danger when it comes to flying. human error is never 100% avoidable and we don't know tht it was his fault or not, but if I had to lay my life on the line with any pilot, He is the man I would go with. I pray for Joe and a speedy recover and pray for Randy that when this is all over with, that emotional scars heal quickly so one of the best pilots I know, can get back in his bird and fly again.
God's speed.

Yeah, we're going to rig a 21 Stealth in the lobby during the show. The boat is going to be auctioned with the profits going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This boat is not going to have a reserve or minimum bid. We plan on raising a lot of money for CF.

I'll start a new thread about the CF boat, I don't want to hijack this thread and take away from the good news about Randy and Joe recovering.

Just got off the phone with Randy. He and Joe are recovering slowly, but they are recovering. Only time will tell if they will make a 100% recovery, but his spirits are high.
That's great news!!!!! I was just talking about this last weekend wondering what the outcome was. God Speed to a full recovery.
