Bought some headers used planning to have them coated. Put them in the boat and they look like they are a little too close to the gunnels. How much clearance do you have and have you noticed any probs?
Old headers were twisties and there were no probs, but I cant recall how far they were. New ones are regular short collector bassets and I dont want to destroy new gel coat after firing this thing up for the first time...

Can you Fit your fingers inbetween the headers and the boat? If not you must keep the water on anytime it's running to keep them cool enough. Budlight

For sure. It looks like i will have about 1.5 inches.

If they are dry the heat will blister the gel while sitting still. Once underway the air going by should disapate the heat quickly. we use wet towels while on the trailer, and have installed small, (6"x10") alumunum plates,(shields), with about a 1/2" standoff from the gunnels, which have worked so far..............MP

I have 2" clearance with solid mounts. Used to have rubber mounts and after hitting a rock in low water on a turn, header contacted gunwhale and spider cracked the hull.
If you have solid mounts and you ceramic coat the headers, you should be fine. No blisters on mine to date.

Mine is 2 fingers and as long as I run a little water the hull is fine, no blisters yet !!!

I did use wetted towels on the gunnels when breaking in the cam when on the trailer (solid flat tappet) and it worked fine. Then again, I'm nowhere close to your measurement.

I've got some experience with radiant heat from the turbos and headers.
A splash guard made out of thin aluminum sheet does real well.

Actually even a piece of aluminum foil taped to the side would reflect the heat.
There are some sheets of multi layer heat reflecting material in the Summit catalog that would work real well too.

Not worried about the break in, going with a roller. Wish I had all that room though! I'd thought about making some aluminum shields, but it sounds lije I will be okay as Im running water.
Thanks for all the help!

Stick a long breaker bar into your headers and very gently bend them up, maybe even use a cherry picker to apply the force gently and evenly. If is seems like too much pressure, apply a little heat around the part of the headers you think you are bending. Make sure your header bolts are torqued down. My headers were starting to sag because I was running them dry. I bent them up a couple of inches and never had a problem. Bend them before you have them coated so as not to add any new scuff marks. Also, I saw something weird and I'm not sure which way was which. My headers would move a good 1"-2" up and down in relation to the rear of my boat when changing from wet to dry. I can't remember which was which but when I slapped the water to them after a long run they would move quite a bit and stay there until I went dry again. Keep that in mind when you are looking at clearances. Not sure if anybody else has seen this? Hope this helps-Aluminum Squirt

you could always wrap them in that heat wrap. I know it does not look the best but it does work.
