Driving direction to Canal Bridge Access from Hampton Inn -
Interstate 40 west for 12.3 miles, get off exit 94 - Dysartsville Road - turn right at top of ramp - go 6/10th mile to dead end - turn left onto Hwy 70 and go 1.8 miles - turn right onto Bridgewater Road (follow sign for Lake James State Park) - go 1.3 miles to stop sign - turn left onto Benfields Landing Road - go 2.3 miles until road dead ends and turn left, Canal Bridge Access is 1/10th of mile on right or you can go 1.2 miles past Canal Bridge Access on right and park at Hidden Cove Access (open hours 9:00pmare 8:00am . :D

To go along with Huffer's info above here, I've updated the map even further. Check the notes on each 'flag', and notice the black line from Canal Bridge ramp that shows it's 2.36 miles over water to the island.
Also, going along with Jerry's directions, just follow the yellow line on the map. 5.98 miles from I-40. Beats driving all the way up to Linville Landing, IMHO
Also, the Benfield Landing Store is a 'country convenience store' that has food, drinks, gas etc. You'll have to climb the hill from the gas dock to get to it, but, hey, you need the exercise...right?
