Boat211

Well I have seen 50hp motor on them but I talked to Lee at Schiada boats and he said that the 30hp nissan/tohatsu seemed to be the best.

Hit up RD, he built one last year with a bunch of "one off" custom billet hardware. His turned out bitchin and yours is well on it's way

RD was my inspiration on this project. When I saw his I had to have one. I am Trying to be original and not copy too many of his ideas so we will just have to see how it goes.

Thanks everyone. Superdave, I built a Cyclone outboard a couple of years ago and decided that there isnt any real hard parts to make on these outboards unless you try to build one of those transom assemblies like RD did so I picked up an old Bridgeport mill and a small benchtop lathe. We will see how it goes. I made the battery box and bilge pump brackets already, I will try to get some pics up later today. It is similar to RD's so I wasn't real excited about showing it off since it isnt original. It certainly doesnt have the trick machine work that his had but it will do the job. If I have any questions though I will direct them towards you.
Thanks Again

So here is the battery/bilge bracket. The bottom is 1/2" that is milled down 1/4" where the battery and bilge pumps are. Note the round area in front of the battery, amini ski race boat needs a ski tow, right?http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2964various_home_photos_034_Medium_.jpg http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2964various_home_photos_035_Medium_.jpg

As far as the trailer goes, it was your standard Zeiman trailer. Nothin fancy AT ALL.Now it has 4 bunks, LED lights, new coupler, and dolly wheels. I know these things are going to spin a million miles per hour but what the hell, it looks cool. This is a single axle trailer that now looks like a tandem. You can see in one pic what I did. Took a piece of steel, machined it to bolt to excisting hub, and welded two new spindles on it. Had to shorten the axle a bit so everything didnt stick out so far. Had fenders made but have not attatched them yet nor have I done anything with the Bow area of the trailer.http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2964various_home_photos_106_Medium_.jpg http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2964various_home_photos_105_Medium_.jpg http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2964various_home_photos_104_Medium_.jpg http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2964various_home_photos_107_Medium_.jpg http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2964boat.jpg

One other thing that we did with the trailer was flattened out the area where it crinkles up at the bend in the frame. Lots of cutting and welding. I can not take much credit on the welding. I have had alot of help from Boat124(on the boards) with all of that. The trailer is still a work in progress as well.http://www2.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/2964various_home_photos_251.jpg

I have to say that this was a good Idea. Maybe not for a normal size boat but for this it looks perfect...

Ok first , yes that is my own design on the trailer. Second yes we still ski race, how bout you? And no I dont think that the design on the trailer would work on a big boat, I was just trying to retain the spring rate of the single axle. Hope it all works. Hey and BB572, thanks for the offer I may have a few questions come up. By the way, Bubbles was BAD ASS!

That thing is pretty sweet. What other power plants could be squeezed in besides the outboard? Could you use something from one of the big jet skis?
That trailer axle design has been around forever and works pretty good. We built a car trailer for a guy that needed something really low to the ground and we went with the same articulating set-up to keep the ride height up when going in and out of driveways. Built properly, this would actually hold the weight of a smaller @16-22ft boat just fine but would have to be built pretty heavy duty to go beyond that. The one we built was set up for about 5000 lbs(trailer and car) and we were able to keep it pretty low profile. The only thing I can see you could possibly have a problem with on yours is the plate flexing. It turned out good though and should look pretty sweet when it's done.

i dont see how it would fit, unless you extended the hull about 2-3 feet in the transom. But it might make for a neat set up if done right. Personally thats more headaches, work and $$$ than I'd commit to.

Hey I'm up for it... Mines slow getting out of the hole, but all those hydraulics pay off on the top end. ;)
I'm in the midst of re-doing the jack plate system for the new owner.. I figure I have the boat until jan / feb (at the latest) after that it's going back to the midwest. I'm kind of going a little overboard on it on the second time around becuase the guy that bought it, is a pretty cool cat. Bought it for his daughter from what I understand.

I used to work for a dealer/rental when I was a kid. We had Schiada's and Addictor's. When I was in my early 20's I bought an Addictor to play with then sold it. I always liked the Schiadas more. That thing will handle the 50hp motor no prob.

Can you put a inboard in that boat. Went to OC boat show and a guy is building a marine version of the rotary engine used in the RX8 . it is supercharged, put out 250hp weighs 700lbs. And is really tiny.

Nope. There is not enough room. When I was rigging RD's mini boat (Bubbles) you realize how small the boat actually is. What I wanted to do was to find a couple of wrecked Sea Doo's and rip out the jet pump assembly. Put in a Suzuki GSXR-750 engine with a drive shaft that goes to a splitter then to the pumps. The motor would have to go up into the bow and the drive shaft run down to the back. No way could you ever fit any type of inboard engine behind the drivers seat. it would not work.
Also, you will have to be very careful about weight on these boats. They are very weight sensitive. Bubbles floats with 1/2" worth of freeboard on the rear when sitting in the water. The outboard alone makes it tail heavy much less a bigger engine.

I was also surprised how well it floated. Yes, I was just messing around... So far this 280 is good. I think it has about 5 hours on it but 4 of them were the Parker 300. I thought I would try a new break in procedure 30 min. pretty easy. The next 4 hours around 7000 to 7500 rpm.

That boat is coming out Siiicccckkkk!!! Are the props counter rotating? I'm not 100 % but I think you could just run one of those motors in reverse and get a backwards prop for one side?
I think I'd consider raising the motors up a hair as well or if they make a shorter shaft version getting new lowers?
I love the trailer, it came out killer! How does it tow?

Thanks Dave,
The motors are not counter rotating. I checked into that a little only to find that apparently nobody offers left hand props for these 30's.The trailer tows nice. We raised the transom from stock and called that good. I cant run them as high as your were due to the fact I have no set back.

The guy that bought mine is putting a lightweight little race motor on it pretty quick. :) I wish I could have the motor and that boat to put it together for him. After building mine there was so many things I wanted to change about the way the motor was mounted on my boat.. That was honestly the only thing I didn't like about my old program. Mounting off the king pin was not the way to go.
On a side note, how come you rigged the shifters externally vs internal?

Yes the 40 was different.. The linkage was inside the cowling, right behind the starter. Point in fact looking at those motors they almost look identical to the 40 I had?

Should be close to the same HP but a little lighter and short shaft mids. We'll see if it really works or not though.

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work? The only concern I had about this boat was whether or not it'd float with that much weight on the back. It floats, the rest is all "dial in." ;)
I'm betting this thing is gonna flat hual ass when your done with it!

Here's a story for you.....
I worked at a place in Channel Islands Harbor in the mid 80's (I was about 13) filling up Schiada 13' and Addictor 10'ers for a rental company. They had 4 Schiada's and 6 Addictors. They went belly up for insurance reasons (the reason was, everyone that rented one, wrecked it in the surf outside of the harbor!) I also worked at the local Scarab (Wellcraft) dealership washing scarabs (remember this is during the height of Miami Vice, I was in HEAVEN!!).
Anyway, this is the last remnance of my job at the rental company, when they went out of business, I took this poster, and happened to have a key to the various boats that were locked at the dock, tied up in litigation. Great poster, hangs in my garage still.
Little blast from the past. Sorry to thread hijack, I just love these little boats.

I have thought about it but I dont think there is much of a market for something quite like this. Maybe on a little smaller scale. I have a ridiculous amount of money wrapped up in this thing.
