I have a 2001 28 TD Daytona, 496 Ho's 1.36 bravo's, no ext. boxes and propshaft about even with bottom of boat. I'm running 30p 5 blade Hydro P5x's. 3500 rpm = 62 mph, 4000 rpm = 72 mph, 4900 rpm = 90 mph. Best speed to date is 93 mph with 30p bravo's with all conditions right. Realistically, it's an 88 mph boat loaded on a typical summer day.
My question for the Daytona guru's? What is the first thing you would do to dial this boat in? Mike P. at Eliminator commented that the 28's don't benefit much with ext. boxes, but did recommend raising the x-dimension. I don't want to mess with the motors. I would appreciate any recommendations from those who have dialed in a 28 Daytona and what you did in specific to gain the greatest results. Thanks...

More like 110-115 with that set-up.

Harper are those turning in or out? I used some 30P P5's and felt like I had to much stern lift with them. Someone said spin them out but I am not sure how this will affect the boat. I just broke an ear on my 4 blade bravos. So I am looking for something new. Someone on here once said three different boats with the same setup as you and I, were running 100-103 with 32 bravo one's 4blade. Never saw anything confirming this though. Think it was internet hype. My best with the 30P bravos was 93.9 on gps..fresh water flat calm around 90 degrees....

28's don't seem to like regular P5 props, P5X's on my boat and other 28's have seemd to work pretty well. I always turn props in, I know a few others who have tried turning out and picked up a porpose in the mid range. Any 28 I've ever seen needs more bow lift than anything. The extra blade on the round ear prop seems to help that nicely. I know I ran much less trim with the P5X's I tried a few weeks ago and the bow carried noticably better. My dirves are 1" below the bottom on Imco boxes, a set of 2" shorties will be tested this spring and I'm convinced it needs them. Slip went down below 7% vs close to 15% with Bravo props.

They're turning inward. I have a pair of 30p Bravo's that originally came with the boat and they're a little work planing with a load, especially when there's some chop or rollers and they lose their bite. I can't imagine planing with 32p Bravo's with my set up, it would be a dog, plus I can only turn the 30's around 4900-5000 rpm.

So then with 2" shorties you'd be at 1" above the bottom, which is where my intuition tells me the x should be for maximum efficiency. I'd be curious to hear of your results. I don't have to trim nearly as much with the P5X's and planing is effortless vs. Bravos.
