Color is easy. I ruined mine once due to a lack of water issue, and I got them stripped and re-coated for a little over $100.

Make sure they are stainless, I bought a set of lightinings a couple of weeks ago off of e-bay and when they got here they were rotted all the way through. completely worthless scrap metal. But on the bright side, now I'm no longer an e-bay virgin...I've been E-screwed! oooouch

lighting headers are af stainless and half steel. one tube is stainless and one is steel that is the reason that they did what you said, i would advise that you get pics of the inside of these headers before you buy cause lighitngs are known for that , if its going to happen its going to happen between the flange and the primary tubes. that is were i have seen sevral go bad. wink

most of the stories i have heard have to do with there old design i have a set of new ones and they work great . you just have to make sure that you drain them well. and they will be fine . check out there page.

Run Ot's. Thru-Transoms are to daycruiser style for me. No offence, just an opinion.

I wouldn't buy a set of Lightning steels for saltwater use. I could see that being problematic. I have mine for freshwater only, and they drain on their own when the day is done. I have had them off a couple of times in the last couple of years, and zero corrosion at all.
They are a cheaper way to go for headers, but for an offshore application, I would steer towards SS Lightnings or CMI, Stelling etc...

In my above post, I didnt mean to imply Lightning headers are a bad product, I would love to have a new set. I dont know the whole true life story on the ones I bought on e-bay, I just know the ones I bought are completely rotted out. I was just warning about what you might get by buying something like that off of ebay sight unseen.

How would I know if I have the old design or new. Mine seem to be fine and the boat is a 98'.

WSM9808,FYI, EBAY has fraud protection and if the seller did not disclose the damage to the headers, I would think that would be considered fraud, at least in the eyes of EBAY, may be worth checking.

Cruiser - Burns designs and builds SS headers to match your engine ... OT for boats included.

Hey pgf127, I didnt know you were still hanging around on the boards here. Good to hear from you.
I did fill out the ebay fraud claim(the ad said "very good condition, NO LEAKS") about a week ago, but I've got no responce yet, and the max they will pay is 200.00 anyway. After I got no responces from the seller by email, I dug up his phone number and called him. He was more than surprised to get the call, but I think we might still get square on the deal.

WSM, if he is a big time seller the last thing he would need is bad feedback or a fraud complaint against him, if the item isn't as described the money should be refunded in full, and the product returned, with him paying shipping both ways, I hope you get it resolved, and yes I am still around, just reading, not posting a lot.
