View Full Version : Polished my aluminum heads

Well, one actually. It all started innocently enough - I was drinking a few beers in the garage when I should have been doing something productive and then focused on my spare set of aluminum heads. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Hell, it couldn't take that long to knock 'em out, right? What a pain in the ass! I should've known better - I've polished a bunch of stuff, from parts on my kid's BMX bike to a jet pump. Every time I vow I will never do it again. And suddenly I'm elbow-deep in black shit. Too deep to quit. Know how hard it is to get enthused and finish something that you hate doing? I was choosing lawn work over sanding on that rough-cast aluminum with a billion nooks and crannys that were imposssible to get a tool in. Well, it took a while and my fingerprints have been sanded into nonexistence but I'm calling the first one done. But now I have to start on the second head 'cause I finally have all the parts to assemble my spare motor. Having someone else polish stuff is worth every single penny.

Real Pretty! Trouble is, you gotta do the other one! Why is when we do something like this before and say "never again", we do it again? Why is that? What's wrong with us? Many of us need mental help. I know I do. idea

Looks nice and I feel for you. Very dirty job. Started doing a t-400 trans case 3 months ago and it is still sitting in the corner of the garage.
Hallet,
You should polish the heads on that new motor! :)

No, we won't be out there on Saturday, but we're going out there for a shakedown next Thursday morning. Everyone is on the road to Red Bluff right now and I'm feelin' the pain. Gotta get my chit together.

The biggest problem with the T-400 polishing was the back pains afterward from getting them up to the buffer. Are doing the aluminum heads as bad?
Am going to be in Surprise June 22 & 23rd. It is on the west side. Where are you at? What is the closest lake? Thought about bring the Barron with me.

Lake Pleasant would be the closest lake but you'll probably want to go to Bartlett. Let me know if you make here, I'm not too far away from Suprise and always in the mood for a beer or two.
