My boat is an 82, here is a crappy pic of the rear, to give you an idea of the bottom. My boat does have the "E" insert pump.

The boat runs 62-63 GPS consistently with 25 gallons of fuel, coolers, anchors, tools, skis, boards, dogs and my family of 5.
The pump with the exception of the shoe and Place Diverter is all stock 23 year old Berkeley. The impeller is an aluminum "A" cut.
Power is a stock Harman Marine 405 horse 454 Chevy.

4800 RPM.
Do you notice a big change from wieght ???

There is little change in speed with weight. The biggest change I notice with different weight is the porpoising at mid-range speeds. Full tanks and lots of passengers increases the tendency to porpoise.
I believe the hull would respond well to more power, it is bulilt rock solid like all Sangers, and is very stable at speeds over 50 or so. I know Obsessive Compulsive has had his V-Drive model up around 100 MPH with the same bottom, so the potential is there.
i don't know of any for sale, as I'm sure you know, they are very rare.

There was a 78 model with the older bottom on e-bay last week. It looked nice and the price was pretty good, about $5000 if I remember correctly.

The older bottom ones are slow !!!
I think about 10mph slower with 400hp.
And there is a wall around 70mph.
Do you have any of yours running ???

MohaveKid I saw your boat in the parking lot at CBBB. That is one wide boat man. It is also very clean inside and out.

DM, it is very wide.
In fact, it won't fit in most 20' boat slips, I usually have to rent a slip for a bigger boat just becase of the width.

Mohave- Do you run on the Sacramento river a lot? I think i've seen you out there near or around Alamar/Verona maybe?
If so.. I'm sure I'll see you out there next year. I have an 18' Spectra, red and white.... I'll be out there often.
I really like your boat!

HalletDave came up last year and we we went out of Verona up to Knights Landing. Had a lot of fun that day.
Usually we stay closer to home on the Feather river or on Lake Oroville. I'll keep an eye out for you next year.

How far up the Feather can I go from the Sac/Feather split? I haven't attempted that yet... I know there is usually a large sandbar there in the summer...

The water in the Feather is usually pretty shallow, especially at the confluence with the Sacramento. Once you get past that, you can go almost all the way up to Yuba City. There are a few sand bars to avoid, but it's not too bad. The rapids/small water fall at Shanghai Bend will stop you a few miles south of Yuba city.
