Looks like they may have dipped a sponson or ran ashore???

..they were running pretty hot when I saw 'em...chasing down a big canopied cat and it looked like he hooked a sponson on the big wake from one of the those Laughlin river jet boats.
I saw the driver pop out of the boat, feet in the air..and the boat shutdown a few hundred feet later. Kind of amazing they were just scraped up and really seemed super calm about the whole thing.
We got the boat over to the side before it went totally under... ya, it looked like a mid 20's foot Eliminator cat...nice looking ride.
Really felt for them...hope they read the forums here and we hear from 'em.

Was the owner of the daytona an older couple???? Early 50's?
Boat looks familiar.......

my guess is they were in their later 20's or early 30's...although I thought I overheard that either the ride was new or maybe some of the motor work was new. Maybe they picked it up recently.
...the good news was he was able to talk at all  I have never seem some one unload out of a boat like that before...pretty spooky.

Scary stuff, I love that part of the river.
Is that the owner crying next to the boat?

So, ket me get this rite. They hit another boats wake, the driver was ejected, the boat stops a few hundred yards later, presumablly in the water, and the entire starboard sponson is ripped open and for the most part off? I knew that west coast boats are not built to the standards of east coast offshore boats and they should really stay on the river and out of big blue, but this is rediculous. I would seriously be questioning the structural integrity of my Eliminator if I owned one.

Do you think you have nearly enough information to make that assumption?

Information? Facts? Come on - this is the internet Baby! Don't wreck the fun by requiring facts and information prior to making assumptions.......

Are you joking? There is more to it than just hitting another boats wake.
First of all they were running "pretty hot" according to CheetahEarl and they hit a Laughlin tour boat wake. Now I have seen that wake many times and have to slow considerably down before crossing it with my 25'. That wake is at times 4'. I don't know about you but I wouldn't hit a 4' wake in a 22' ANYBRAND at speed and expect nothing to happen.
With the lack of details so far I would chalk this up to driver error.
Hope everyone involved is ok.

We hit one of those wakes (Casino transporter on Havasu) early this year in our 28' Sleek (Really a 30') and got the boat completely out of the water. :supp:
I think we would have been in big trouble if we were in a boat much smaller.7,000lbs is not supposed to fly unless you have wings or ride in Jays Fountain!!!! :hammer2: :D

I've hit one of those wakes on the old SeaDoo at about 35mph. That was some serious air time!! :rollside:

Even when my boat is anchored and the Laughlin boats come by, I run out to the boat. It pounds the crap out of it. Sometimes you can body surf that wake. :notam:
Hey Cheetahearl, I like the beach at your house. I see you out there all the time, just didn't know you were on the boards. I'll be there this weekend, so if you see my little 18' jet boat missing half, you can tow me too.

I saw the damaged boat sitting at a motel down by the Refuge. It looked like the right front sponson was ripped back 5 feet. All the structure and plywood was torn back. It did not look it hit anything.
