I wish. Service Hondas (aka CR 500AF) are the best of the best with all the goodies. Very pricey though. About 10K new.

I saw a buddy this weekend that built his own. Took a little time, but turned out very nice.
01 CR250 + 90's CR500
Of course, he does build circle track cars for a living....
I told him to let me know before he gets rid of it!

Just saw this (http://www.glamisdunes.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=55506&hl=cr500) for sale on Glamis Dunes the other day. Very clean looking CR500 AF. I can only imagine what it would be like to ride one of these in the sand.

They build two versions. One in a 250 frame and one in a 125 frame. Both are sick. You can pick a used on up for around 6K.

Then the guy on GD.com is way over priced :jawdrop: I'm a 4 stroke guy now, but wouldn't mind giving this CR500 AF a try. I rode my friend's 96 CR500 years ago, and that thing was a blast. Nothing like riding a 250.

You are right. I love how nimble my 250 is, but I need the power when I go hill climbing. Plus, weighing 225 lbs doesnt help my 250 at all.

Yeah my CRF450 is no where as nimble as a 250. How ever it makes up for it's lack of agility with power and it's ability to tractor up everything. I've almost for gotten what it's like to be "in the power band" :D

A funny story about starting CR500's
My little 145lb ass couldn't even get the motor to turn over. It was embarassing. I still laugh at that when I see a 500. I wanted to ride it so bad.
I didn't want to have someone start it for me in fear of killing it in the dunes and never be able to get it started again.

I had a 88 CR500 with a 12-paddle and a pipe. Had as much HP as a stock VW-bug but only 250lb's. Very fast in the sand infact I miss it.

Thor,
I have a neighbor that is selling a KTM 500 2-stroke for cheap. I think it's late 80's early 90's vintage but hardly riden, very well maintained, super clean and fast as hell. Let me know if you have any interest and I'll get more details for you.

Get the year for me and a pic if you can.

I just talked to him. It's an 1989 KTM 500. New tires, two tanks, standard and desert. Only a few rides on rebuilt forks and shock (valved and sprung for a 240 lb rider). My camera is not working but if your interested I will scrap up a picture for you. The KTM dealer told him it's worth $1500 so that is what he's asking I have got him talked down to $1000 firm.

How about my 1987 CR500 with an extended swingarm. I will even throw in my Evil Knieval outfit.
