Would you pay $399 for the very first edition of Sports Illustrated? Knowing it is legit and has authenticity papers, etc....

MMMM, you better check the authenticity through Sports Illustrated to be sure. See if you can buy it with your halloween pictures, those are worth lots

Ha ha Timmy...I am sure they're authentic--they were released for the magazine's 50th anniversary...They were discovered in a wherehouse, and they have 27 Topps full color trading cards included in a 6-page fold-out. The cards are of Willie Mays, Ted Willliams, Jackie Robinson, and others...My Dad would freak out...

The other question that comes up, is why?
The reason I ask is that. On my 40th birthday my brother went out and found a Hot Rod magazine release that was on the year and month I was born.
Now that was cool as shit to me. I flip through the issue all the time.
It's totally cool to look at what was hot back then. (1949) to be exact.
The magazine is in perfect condition sealed in a liner. Yellowed of course, but that's it.
If you have someone really into collecting sports Illustrated, I guess that's cool.
I would be willing to bet there's plenty of copies out there. Verify the value.

The baseball cards are not real cards, but replicas, not that it makes much difference, but just letting you know. Here's one on eBay, which is almost as nice as mine. :D

You can probably score it for less than $399.
Thanks for that link...I wonder how much he paid? Looks like the same thing to me....

It is August, 1954, and The Braves' Eddie Matthews is on the cover...My Dad is a baseball fanatic...I think he would love it...

All baseball fanatics would love it. Bunny, if you search a little, there's also one for sale in similar condition that includes the 1974 with Hank Aaron on the cover when he hit HR 715 to pass Babe Ruth. That might really be one to take a look at. I have that Hank Aaron issue too, it's hard to find.
How long have you had that issue? Where did you find it? Do you mind saying how much you paid? You can PM me if you prefer. ;)

I got it in trade for two Frank Thomas Upper Deck rookie cards. I had taken 20 Frank Thomas rookie cards in payment from a guy that owed me money. At the time, they booked at $100, but he owed me $1000, so I paid $50 each. I got rid of about 15 of them at around $100 and I still have 5 or so laying around. Frank Thomas is not sending my kids to college like I anticipated 15 years ago, but he bought me some cool stuff.
About $100 I paid in trade.
Sorry The Big Hurt didn't bring you more dough :( ...Hoping Dad's Tony Gwynn rookie card is worth something one day soon...Thanks for the info SWB ;)

The only thing the Big Hurt put a hurting on lately is my wallet. ;) Good luck with your search.
Tony Gwynn used to get his Porsche serviced at the same place I went to. That guy could talk your ear off about baseball. Helluva a nice guy.
I heard he's a super nice guy as well...A real genuine person...Have a good night SWB... ;)

I wonder how much the first issue of Hot Boat magazine is worth? Anybody got one?
I pretty much know what the first response is going to be to this. :)

If it is something you collect or are going to give your honey...sure, why not. I don't think that's too much. But as some have said, make sure it's the real dealio. ;) Have a nice weekend.
