after a lot of searches I'm going to costco to pick up a LCD TV next week.
Question is,
Resolution, 1366x768 or 1920x1080 which is better?
Brightness: 600 cd/m2 or 480 or 550 or 450 or 500 ?
Contrast: 1000:1 or 800:1 or 700:1 ?
Viewing angle: 170 degrees or 176 degrees?
SIZE ( for a wall mount 13x27 room) 37" or 32"
Thanks
Rick

1980 x 1080 is better
brightness depends on your room the darker the room the better the picture will look
the higher the contrast ratio the better
between 170 and 176 you willnever notice the difference
size depend s on how far you are sitting from the screen

Unless you go with a set 50 inches or bigger, than 1080p is really not worth it.

Yeah, what H2O Toie said. It's not the room size, it's the distance between the viewer's eyes and the screen. Here's a chart from Crutchfield with some recommendations. Good luck! :)
Suggested viewing distance (4:3 aspect ratio)
27" 6.75 ft
32" 8 feet
36" 9 feet
40" 10 feet
45" 11.25 feet
50" 12.5 feet
55" 13.75 feet
60" 15 feet
Suggested viewing distance (16:9 aspect ratio)
30" 6.25 feet
35" 7.3 feet
40" 8.3 feet
45" 9.4 feet
50" 10.4 feet
55" 11.5 feet
60" 12.5 feet
65" 13.5 feet

I have a 32" flatscreen on the wall of my bedroom, and it's perfect size for the room. One thing you have to remember is that Flat panel tv's are extremely bright when compared to tube and CRT projection tvs because the panel is lit evenly accross the screen. Unless the viewing is along the 27' area, I personally wouldnt go any larger than a 32.
Remember that it's all subjective. Ultimately you have to buy what looks best to you...

I'm going to put the tv on the wall along the 27' side.. The room is 13' wide and I'll be roughly 9-10' directly across. Thinking the Sony 32 lcd wega at costco. prices at $1699.99 or Sharp 32" @1499.99 or Phillips 32" @ 1499.99.
What do you thhink?

Either choice is good, but no matter what, buy the TV from Costco.
Costco is the ONLY retailer that offers, in essence, a free extended warranty.
I only buy larger ticket items from costco for that reason alone, even if I can save $1K elsewhere.
(The only costco warranty limitation applies to laptop & deskop computers)

If you're going to be sitting 9-10' from the screen, then I'd go to Costco and situate yourself that far from each one and imagine watching it from that distance in your home. Important: in Costco they'll have a Gucci HD demo thing playing (Discovery Channel or similar) that fills the whole screen and is high-def. A lot of what you watch at home isn't going to look that good, and it isn't always going to fill your screen when you're watching regular TV channels, thus reducing the effective monitor size, so try to use your imagination for that too. Good luck! :)

screen size is all relative.
The closer you sit, the bigger it is.

I'm not really that impressed with flat screen TVs. They look nice hanging on the wall but for the price I don't think they're worth the money and don't look all that great as people say. DLP is a great way to go. Samsung has a nice 56" It's a generation 5 unit that's 1080I not 1080p that you can get from Costco for about 2500.00 I've been hearing that the studios will be releasing HD DVDs sometime next year (new format), you'll need a generation 6 TV (1080p) to see those DVDs in HiDef. It'll look amazing, better than 90% of all movie theaters in the US.. But you'll also need to buy a new HD DVD player.. If you don't plan on watching or buying DVDs in HD a generation 5 DLP would be the ticket. They're getting pretty thin too.

I don't support Best Buy too much these days but I decided to just window shop on Friday and walked out with the 32" Sharp LCD mentioned above @ 1499.99, BB had it listed for just over 1500 bucks and the kid on the floor made me an offer at 1300+ tax and went for it!

I have the JVC HD-ILA 52 inch model. Not very wide at all and the picture is VERY crisp. It was in between a plasma and a LCD display so I could compare. Counldnt really tell. Except for the price. Mine was 2K.
The HD-ILA uses 3 color chips and when the bulb goes out, you replace it. Not like a plasma or LCD. I think it is even better than the DLP. And the DLP was my first choice till I reseached this. Plus the 4 years of in home service on any of my JVC products by some one from the factory is pretty cool too. THat is only available in Japan however.
You might want to take a look at this TV http://www.hotboatpics.com/pics/data/500/7936Japan_Cars_and_house_002.jpg

So I busted out the tape and I'm 9' from the screen to the front of my couch. 60" Sony. I love it. Watching Saving Private Ryan in HD right now. The picture is amazing. Seems like Cox adds new HD channels about once a month. :D :D :D
