help i think i may have the wrong flywheel. how do you tell the difference between a bbc and 455 olds manuel flywheel. the starter does not engage the teeth on the flywheel on my 455. is there a different starter for the two?
thanks

Pat, the Olds flywheel wont even bolt onto a BBC.
BBC and Olds starters don't interchange. The noses are different since the Olds bolts to the left side of the block and the BBC to the right side.

what would cause the starter gear not to engage to the fllywheel? it just reaches the face of the flywheel and spins.

Can you tell how far out the drive pinion is moving? Should be 3/4-7/8".

If it turns out that you need a flywheel, I have 1 for a 455 Olds. TIMINATOR
