silent choice exhaust

Can anyone give me info on silent choice.do you have to open exhaust when increasing rpm ?I was told that if you dont it will cause problems.i would like to run silent choice but would probably forget to open when pounding beers allday.

My boat originally came with a 454 Mag with Silent Choice. The Merc manual said to never run the boat over 2500 rpm with the exhaust going throuogh the prop.

I cruse with in silent mode at 3500 rpm a lot -no problems- Twin 600 hp 502's carb'd

I'm guessing a small naturally aspirated engine could do alright with silent choice, but if your running anything big you have to really be careful.
