496 Mag HO which drive? X or XR

I have a 28 ft Cat with the 496 Mag HO and a bravo one X drive. I grenaded the thing in havasu, no big wake jumps but alot of whole shot starts. Do I need to Upgrade to an XR or can I stay with the 1X? http://www.go-fast.com/mercruiser_bravo_sterndrives.htm

The regular Bravo drive should be able to handle 425hp no problem, you might of got one of those Friday or Monday made units. :D

I have the same motor with XR Drive in a 27 cat. No problems. I have had 12 people in the boat with all their gear for a full weekend too!

Tear the unit down and find out what broke. That should determine if you need to go to a bigger drive or not.

I did that and found out that the gear tooth broke. It looked like the Pinion got out of allignment and then from there down the line, everything got f*#ked up. I went ahead and upgraded to the XR drive. I hope to through a Procharger on it soon anyways.. I would also like to tune the computer for an additional 5 mph.
