This is what is printed but there may be new info that has not been up-dated.
Speeds right now are in the low
60's but an intake loader grate has yet to be designed and made (remember
Volvo Penta in front of the bowl).

There used to be a peep on here that was registered as "Scarab Jet"... his was one of the boats used in the Universal Studios "Miami Vice" show if I remember correctly. They only made a handfull of them.

That is why this thread is named Scarab Jet, to get him to stop lurking and share his info on this boat !!!
BTW - I have talked with him (Scarab Jet) and he is a very nice guy.

This boat is a boat down the river from me. His name is Doug Shcriber (sp?)
The boat performed better with a small block 305, than the BBC. it's just to heavy for this boat. As he said he had issues and limitations with the Legend/Volvo Jet drive, He has adapted most of the hardware from the bowl back to run normal hardware. He said he is looking for something else to play with, for a river runner.

Howdy Jim... long time no C... Yup, that sure is a nice motor in that Scarab but somehow I would have thought that it would go alot faster than 60! I've got a 4.3 Chevy V6 and do about 50 with it (with an A impeller that is)... I also think that perhaps the 502 is an overkill for it... it being too heavy for the boat...
Any rate, been really busy lately and am trying to get up to the River every chance that I get... I'll make sure to look you up when I am up there next time...
Hope you are doing well my friend and are past your health problems...
Mike...

Regardless of the speed thing.........it's a nice looking rig (kinda mini-offshoreish)
It is it's own deal, and I like it.
If you were truly interested in speed, you'da probably bought a gullwing, or an Elemmonator, or the like.

I know a guy who has a larry smith scarab jet it was used in a lot of stunt shows/ dare program and has a v-6 for power. I'm trying to talk him into selling it to me but he doesn't want to sell it.(thank god as I would be hooked) anyways, he's got a lot of info as he was part of the build design team. The pumps you guys talk about only pump out so much water so I believe no matter how much HP you put in front of it ,the pump will only pump till its limits then anything over that is a waste.

Mine is actually one of the ones that was converted to jet for the Universal Studios Miami Vice show (I believe there were only 8 or 9 of them made that way, since this boat was originally designed as an I/O with a Mercruiser Alpha outdrive configuration). The one with the 502 in it was actually made as a jet by Wellcraft and has a Volvo PJX pump which is really a legend from bowl back and has (at least most of them) legend "C" impeller. I am not sure what my original pump [from bowl back] looked like since when I got mine, the bowl was already retrofitted for an actual Legend bowl. So, the intake piece [I believe] was actually made by Scarab... (someone can correct me if wrong)...
Any rate, I am pretty happy with its performance as a family boat... Just this past summer installed an Edelbrock Performer Manifold and Carb (600 CFM Marine) and the combo really brought it to life)...
Any rate ,here is a picture of it... I had it totally restored after I bought it... I usually cruise the River between the Needles bridge and the AVI and am always looking for peeps on this board to say hi to...
