I have never ran it thru 1/4 so this is my first time. I'm hoping for high 12's @ 120 mph

Traction will be a problem because it is so light in the rear but I'm putting on a set of slicks and hopefully I can hook up.
It won "BEST MUCSLE CAR" at the goodguys in Pomona. I'm not a car show guy but I entered that one so I could cruise in pits and bring refreshments in. and it won a trophy...

If you bring slicks and cut atleast a 1.8 60ft you will be in the low low 12's to high 11's.(120 is alot of MPH)
Last time I ran at Fontana I was able to run a 11.7@120 on a very soft 1.79 60ft.(The weather and headwind were pretty bad that day)
Let us know how you do!

I have 3.55 gears... that's where I came up with the MPH. If I can run 5100 thru the lights I will run 120.

What is the weight and how much power/TQ are you making to the wheels?

I don't know that info, I think that I have about 460 HP. I guess I will have to find out on the real Dyno... The Drag strip.

Gotcha...
I am going to go out on a limb and guess the car weighs between 3000-3500lbs before driver.
If your making 460 Flywheel HP that would equate to about 360-370 RWHP on a dyno after you take in the 20% drive train loss.
Honestly I think 120 MPH is going to be a real tuff nut to crack unless you car is making way more power than you think.(I know those Yenko 427's were nasty so you could be underestimating)
Last time out I was making 435rwhp with equates to about 505 flywheel. My car (04 Vette) weighs 3200lbs and is very aerodynamic compared to a Nova and I ran 119-121 trap speeds.
If I was to guess what you are going to run I would say:
12.3@113-114 on a good hook with slicks
12.8@114-115 with a OK hook with slicks
Please post your results so I can see how good my math/guess work is.
Have fun!!!
I will let you know the next time they have a private track day so we can go out and play wth some Vipers,Vettes and Porches.

With those relatively tall gears you have to take two other things into account.
1.The diameter of your slicks as opposed to your street tires. Most slicks have a bigger diameter to get a larger contact patch. This will effectively make the gear ratio even taller.
2.Torque converter-How much stall and what diameter is your converter? On slicks, with basically "freeway" gears, getting below 2 seconds 60ft might be a problem with a "stock" type converter. It will probably run almost as good on the street tires, especially if you have posi-traction.
I'd run it on the street tires a few times to get a baseline and see how much it spins. Just remember, on street tires you want to avoid driving through the water box. The deep tread will trap water and make you spin off the line. Drive around the water, do a really short burnout, just enough to clean off the tires. With the slicks, don't do what most people do and "sit" in the water when you start a burnout. Drive through it and do your burnout on the other side. And most of all, HAVE FUN. Damn, this is making me itch to get another musclecar.....

No problem, I appreciate the input. I work on Nitro dragsters and but this is the first time I have ever driven a car down a race track.
My slicks are M/T 26" so the new math is that I will need to rpm 5700 in the lights to run 120 mph. So I probably will run somewhere between 113-115 mph.

Branin,
I had a fun weekend, best run was 13.88 @102 mph.
First thing I found out is that my Nova weighs 3870 lbs with me in it. Way too heavy!
2nd is that I needed to run 2nd gear out which I did on the last run.
3rd it's not set-up to drag race.
I was the happiest frist round loser, because I broke out by 7 tenths...
Is there any way you know of to figure out the horsepower with the info I gave you?
Doug

Give me the MPH/60 ft on a couple more of your runs.
Did you stay in it well past the finish line?
What tires did you run?

60ft, 2.19-2.22-2.18
MPH 101.9-102.2
tires, 26" 9"w m/t slicks
I click right after the finish line.

I am going to guess that the car is making 300-315 rwhp (355-375 Flywheel HP)
http://www.speedworldmotorplex.com/calc.htm
Did the car spin leaving the line? The 60fts are pretty high for running a slick
Will the car spin the tires when leaving stop light?

It didn't feel like it, I didn't bring up the R's maybe my converter was slipping?
It will blow the street tire off when leaving from a stop sign.

Intresting....
Maybe the air pressure was a little low in the Slicks and it was causing you to bog the car?
With that HP and SLicks 1.860ft shouldn't have been a problem.
What RPM does your tranny stall to?

HighRoller
11-21-2005, 10:34 AM
I'd say the weight and the gears are the biggest factor in the slow 60ft. Not much you can do about that if you want to drive it on the street. I'm assuming since it's a Yenko you're not gonna mess with it too much.

Tires were aired about right...
You can check your approx stall by hitting the breaks and bringing the RPM's up.When the car starts to spin the tires that is the extent of your stall.(Since the car is a driver you probablly have a 2000-2200 stall)
13.8 is a good time for that car.Put some Nitrous on it and the times will be even better.(N20 dosen't care about gears or stall ratio)
With a days worth of practice and some minor changes we could get you into the 13.50's pretty easy.

Good chance you were spinning the tires off the line at 20psi. I run 11 1/2 psi in my MT ET Drag slicks. More pressure will cause my car to spin off the line and lower pressure will cause it to get loose at mid track. I'd lower your pressure down to around 13psi then drop in 1/2 psi increments until the car gets loose, then go back up 1/2psi. The big block torque and short 26" tire should be able to make up for the 355 gears. If you pick up in the 60ft then you'll pick up just as much in the quarter. I agree if the power is there then you should be able to run 1.8 60ft's. Get the car hooked up then start looking at things like ignition, spark and fuel if you don't want to make any major mechanical changes to the car. Sounds like it's there you just have to find it. My car ran high 12's the first time out and now runs 11.80's @1300' with no major changes.

LOL yah, so now you have the weekend free...
Yes Flo's are on it. I was using 91 octane for Chevron and added 104 boast. Next time I'm going to get my hands on some racing fuel 101 octane. Also I have the timing set for the street, I will kick it up for the drags.

What does your car weigh?
Probably 3,200-3,300 lbs. 1967 Camaro, stock body, trim and interior accept, fiberglass hood, no front inner fender wells and no back seat, but it also has the additional weight of a 6-point cage and subframe connectors.
