There is no green. There is no programming of any sort. It is the real reaction your eyes have and the effect of what happens when things in your vision land on the nerve in your eye. Everyone has a blind spot caused by the nerve, but the brain trys to compensate. When something in your vision is landing on the nerve for a longer period of time, it will disappear.. People who are not color blind, will see this effect very well. the people who are color blind won't see the green, but the dots will disappear
I sold colorants for a long time, and we had all sorts of cool illustrations to show how the eyes can play tricks. I actually had a mechanical version of that illustration and people thought it was rigged.
