hey guys have just been handed a 74' 460 block tore it down to short block, what is the camel hump thing in the back of the lifter valley with the plugs in it. am new to BBF?

was wondering that myself.Looks to me like something oil related.

It means it went out and got it on with a Corvette head at one point or another...

That is the cross over oil feed to the other side lifter galley.

Correct, mainly used in cleaning the block only!, Leave it plugged. Take die grinder and chamfer/groove the edge of return holes.

hey guys have just been handed a 74' 460 block tore it down to short block, what is the camel hump thing in the back of the lifter valley with the plugs in it. am new to BBF?Pay no attention to those Chevy guys, they can't tell one end of an engine from the other, they don't even know where to put the distributer :D :D :D That hump in the valley is to get oil to the other lifter bank. If you have the block hot tanked be sure to remove those and all the other plugs in the block. Make double sure you get the special plug thats in the front of the main oil gallery back in the orig. position. Its the one with the tapered end. If you install a flat faced plug you will reduce or cut off oil to the engine. eek!

Thanks guys! knew it had to do with oiling, but didnt know exactly what for. Its hard to find info on BBF motors.Can the plugs be taken out and plumbed in the lifter valley for additional oiling to some other critical parts for say like an old blower or turbo? just curious. thanks again for the info!
