Is there a difference in Flame arrestors? Stainless verses aluminum, 2",3" or 5". What do you guys recommend for a SBC? (the engine will be covered) LDFTRBT

Most stock flame arresters are very restrictive, kinda like running with your hand over your mouth and one nostrel plugged.I used a 4"K&N coast guard approved arrester on my 383 stroker.Polished stainless looks great and flows great. We all know that flo=horsepower!!

I put a Eddie Marine arrestor on my 383:

Like waterbum said, why spend all that money making your engine breathe better, if you're going to restrict it with a cheap arrestor?

Yo H.H.,I had to put the sun glasses on my smiley!! Dat's perrdy. What's your h.p.? What length rod's did you use? I used the 5.7's. I bet we were strokin em before Merc was. Always wandered (with the h.p. & torque these engines produce) why G.M. and Merc didn't do it sooner. The 377's & 496's are popular hammers now. Sorry, didn't mean to change the subject. The Bum

Hey Waterbum- I got sick of everyone making fun of how ugly my engine was when I popped the hatch to get the anchor, so I went a little overboard on the "purdy" stuff... http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/forum/smilies/happy02.gif
Yep, got me the Eagle 5.7's. A big 10 hours on them- no worries. http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/forum/smilies/happy06.gif
I got a little over 450HP and a little over 460ft/lbs out of my mouse motor- with mildly massaged Edelbrock Performer RPM heads.
As far as Merc, I got around 75 ponies more than the 377 Scorpion, and I could put around three of these together for what they want for just one... http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/forum/smilies/confused02.gif
Go big, or go home! Us SBC guys gotta stick together...

HH, thats a nice lookn little Chevy!!! Mr Bum, did that K&N come from a marine shop or did you have to order it. The boys at the local NAPA said they didn't even show it in their K&N catalog.
thanks LDFTRBT

Havasu Hangin, sounds and looks like you used quality parts. What you got that mighty mouse in? Your right about us small block guy's hangin together,at one time I wouldn't have a big block but thats what's in my Warlock.I keep my stroker around for a spare cause it put out some impressive power!!Smoked alot of 454&502mag's. I got it in a big, old, HEAVY, 23' daycruiser, so it'll never see good top speeds. It started life as a Volvo 280 package, so the outdrive, raw water pump, and thermostat housing are all that is left with a Swedish accent. http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/forum/smilies/happy06.gif
There's a couple pics under my profile webpage. These guys probably get sick of me posting pictures of the HH Tugboat.

Yo H.H.,don't laugh but I had my 383 in a 1988 Four Winns 210Horizon. When it had stock power it was refered to many times as my lead bottem boat!!! So I built my mighty mouse over the winter, raised my X-dimention by 1.75 inches, added a King Cobra lower gear case with Hydromotive nose cone and proceded to take my revenge. Imagine your 21' Baha with 225 Johnson with jackplate gettin blown off by a Four Winns family boat!!! All that horsepower and my leadbottem would still only run 67.7 gps on a bad day.Never gps'd in prime conditions. Still one badass Four Winns how bout it! Often thought about tryen to get it in reader rides. The Bum http://free.***boat.net/ubb/tongue.gif

Hey Bum- that's my boat! The family boat that has snowballed out of control. I bet my boat weighs as much as most new 28 footers. That little mouse runs extra hard on that wheel... http://www.goldenplasma.f2s.com/forum/smilies/happy06.gif
My goal was not to get beat by anymore PWCs...simple enough. Got the Hydromotive nose cone on, as well. Getting hydraulic steering this winter, if I can ever find someone to fab me a wing plate for the old 280 top cap.
How did you raise your x-dimension? They don't make shorties for my old drive- they don't even make any performance parts...period.

I had to remove the complete transom assy.I used epoxy resin and plywood to layer the hole back in then cut new hole.I then made a reinforcement plate for the transom, one quarter inch larger than the outside diameter of my transom assy.,out of one eigth polished stainless plate. That reinforced the repair, gave the transom assy. a new sealing surface and the polished outline around it looked cool. Then in the engine compartment I epoxied the proper size blockes in and used longer lagbolts to bolt the engine mounts back in.(wanted to make sure I was getting back into good meat,471h.p. lot's of ponies to hold)Then I made sure everything was in perfect alignment.Lots of work but the results were worth it to me.Used two summers like this,no leaks no cracks lot's of enexspected butt wompins!! What kind of speed did you gain? I raised the x-dim. on an 18' Glastron Carlson by 2 1/2 inches and gained about 10 mph. Mind you the x-dim. was 1/2 inch too low to begin with. The exhaust manifolds were hitting the underside of the cover and the cavitation plate was 1/2 inch below the bottom of the boat. What a differance in handling. Latter I installed a alpha SS drive that is 2 1/2 inches shorter than stock. With over 500 HP and a propshaft 3 inches below the bottom of the boat that boat was fast. Low 90's. lots of other mod's also.

Tink,I gained 6 m.p.h..Also gained a ton of handeling. My problem was at wfo the damn thing wouldn't turn and when it decided to it felt like going into a powerslide on ice!! Also the slightest ripple would start a nasty chine walk that would keep intencifying till I pulled out of it or ride along rev limiter(cruiser queen)kicked in and hit me upside the head.Changing x-dim cured all except premature rev limiter actuation.HeHeHe The Bum http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif
