I'm thinking more power is needed (who doesn't right?) and wanted to pose the question to the forum audience if anybody has done this and what are the factors - positive and negative. What about a Bravo XR drive withstanding the extra Oomph? I've heard the Mercury Smartcraft system has to be eliminated...true or false? What about increase height over the stock motor's height? All comments are welcome.

Nobody? Doesn't say much for this combo if that's true.

Looks like the big hurdle is re-programming the EFI (PCM 555 or something like that).
Check OSO (http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=20) tech forums...lots of good information there also. Between here and there you should get your answer.
Here's a couple threads:
thread 1 (http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115690&highlight=525+whipple)
thread 2 (http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95035&highlight=525+whipple)
thread 3 (http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109313&highlight=525+whipple)

So tell me how long or how many hours did you hit before you got bored. I got to 10.1 hours and had mine boosted. I am getting bored again went to Pfaff today hell of a nice place and good people, got to talk to alot of them to include Paul. Looking at some new things to put together I would like have 1200 ponys and a new drive maybe that new one from IMCO we will see. Good luck with your 525 and as far as your drive it will be fine just be nice to it.
Not bored at all! Whatever the price of the Whipple installed will be it'll cost me twice as much for the sparkles I have to buy for the better half! :D

In the March Powerboat mag there is an article in Teague on Tech in which Bob says Whipple has a new 525 EFI Whipple kit. The kit includes a new computer, distributor, wires and sensors. I believe the extra HP would be hard on the XR but would work as long as you don't abuse it. You should talk to you boat MFG or Merc about limits on the XR. If you're still under warranty and you whip it and break it you may not be covered. I think there were some threads not long ago about Whipple that had some peeps that were not so happy with Whipple. Do your research.

Thanks...I saw that "Teague on Tech" article. The motor and drive is under warranty for another 5 months so nothing will be done before that. I never really hammer the throttle or get air (well, occasionally) but keeping the XR together shouldn't be too much of a problem. If the drive fails...then it'll be replaced as well.

Concerned about warranty?
Heard through the grape vine that the 525 warranty will extend to 2 years if rigged by an authorized dealer.
