I picked up a GM starter motor over the weekend, the seller claimed it was a HI-torque unit. I looked up the part number in GM performance parts and can't find it there. I did find a reference to it in a price list but can't find the application it was designed for. Does anyone know what GM part number 12567709 is for?
Thanks,
Paul

I don't know the part numbers, but if it has a really small motor (about 3.5" in diameter), it it probably the newer style starter which is a gear reduction unit. If it looks like a regular starter, then it 's probably nothing special.
If it is the new one, watch what you put it on, as the tooth count and pitch on the pinion gear may be different than what you have, and could cause damage to the starter, the flywheel, or both.

I finally called the dealer and found it's for a 2003 8.1 liter truck engine. It is a gear reduction starter and is for an 9.1:1 engine so I'm hoping it will work OK with my 9.7:1 502.
Thanks for the reply.

An 8.1 liter and a 502 are different blocks. I don't think they use the same starter.

Bolted it up last night, worked fine!

Did you use factory bolts? If not the starter will move and fail.
