eBay buzzing with Xbox 360 auctions
Many who managed to score Microsoft Xbox 360s have been playing a game that has nothing to do with improved graphics or next-gen shooters.
They're wrapped up in the wildly popular sport of eBay. The game's objective: to turn a profit. Just 36 hours after the game consoles went on sale, there are thousands of winners.
A search on the online auction site for "Xbox 360" at around 1 p.m. Wednesday showed nearly 31,000 completed auctions, a total that's growing every minute.
An eBay spokeswoman told Reuters that by midday Wednesday, nearly 7,700 Xbox 360s had sold at an average price of $786.
While it's hard to make comparisons because the game consoles are often packaged with extra games or accessories, it appears sellers are making at least a few hundred dollars off each system.
For example, one page with about 50 Xbox-360 items for auction listed the "premium bundle," which retails for $399. It sold for $700 to $900. The price of the $299 "core" unit ranged from $500 to $715.
The bidding didn't appear quite as fierce at Yahoo's auction site, where there were about 300 closed auctions. Some consoles sold there for below the retail price.
Most of the listing promised immediate, if not free delivery. The common sales pitch was "sold out in stores."
Big retailers, including Best Buy and Target, reported that most stores ran out of Microsoft's next-generation game system following Tuesday's North American debut.
Despite shortages and strong demand from gamers willing to pay top dollar for the latest technology, however, some sellers were apparently asking too much. Many of the 31,000 eBay auctions listed were unsuccessful, possibly because of overpricing.
One Xbox 360 premium console was listed with a starting bid of $1,200 and a "Buy It Now" price of $2,500. That auction expired on Wednesday without attracting an offer.

I say, more power to them, both to the sellers and the buyers. What I think is funny:
People will stand in line at Quiznos and pay 1000% markup on a sandwich, or waiting in line at Starbucks to pay over 1000% markup for a cup of coffee. That seems interesting and funny to me.
MMD, thanks for the post,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,please go back to discussing x box's again.

when I go to starbucks I go with the "buy it now" price. I don't have time for the auction to end. :D
if I could make a quiznos sandwich for 50 cents I would.
i'm gonna put the 360 in the closet with the cabbage patch doll ;)

I also watched last week on ebay, on one auction the price went up $500 in 45 seconds. It finally ended with the winning bid a $3550 and still had to pay $50 for shipping.I can think of alot of other things to buy for that much$, when in a matter of months they will be plenty of them. Gotta love " the supply and demand "

This has been a big deal out here in Seattle. Especially for the signed ones. People have been calling in about selling them for Jacked Up prices in ebay. One dude called in said he sold his for $600. He posted a picture of the box and just sold the box. lol. That was pretty funny listening to the guy tell the story.

I think it's more than a video game, though... I think it plays dvd's and does music storage as well...

Totally pissed me off. I went like thousands of other fools on the 22nd to buy one at my local Circuit City. Got there around 6 in the morning, noone in line. About 8 people started to show up, so I decided to get in line. Much to my suprize all of the people in line had purchase vouchers. It seems that they had people lining up sice the 20th to purchase them.
For the entire United States Microsoft shipped 120,000 units. That to me is totally piss poor. It's one thing to have a successful launch, but to cause a complete frenzy where people are getting robbed at gun point for their system is completely f*cked.
I am a hardcore gamer. I personally own over 70 games forthe current Xbox, and will not be purchaseing the new system any time soon, even if they fix the demand problem, and one is easily accessable.

The auction contains no accessories, games, console, wires or anything else. Just the woman and the clothes she is currenlt wearing. Winning bidder will be responsible for her upon completion of transaction. I do hear she can cook?
Bid with confidence!

You also notice that those sellers no longer are registered users. It looks like Ebay yanked their ID's.
