the 6al msd ignition box that i want to put in my jet is not marine approved. My motor is covered. Has anyone out there ran a street box in their boat? Anybody done anything to a box to make it more water tight? Thanks for any help.....glen :skull:

I ran A 6AL in both my jets ...never had a problem out of either one...and you dont need a seperate box for rev limit chips.....It is not Coast Guard approved,however...

Had mine in my boat for 2 seasons now and no problems yet :)
Remember the MSD boxes are designed to go under the hood of a car and its not water tight under there either.

Like the guys have stated. I have had mine in there for 3 years with no problems. I have a covered engine also.

I have the Mallory box, and the instructions state that it's sealed for moisture/water spray under hood - not saying it's for marine use, just can handle moisture under normal conditions - It throws out more spark, includes a rev-limiter AND it's cheaper than MSD

Mine was underwater for three weeks. The day after I got it out, I fired it off. (After extreme flushing) The box still works!!!!!!
I would not recommend the above test :rollside:

I Spliced in 15-20 feet of 4 wire trailer harness and put mine in the hatch of my old mustang for 5 years and 60,000 miles with no problems. Then I pulled it out and did the same thing to put it under the dash of my old boat to keep it dry and away from the heat. Worked great there two years, and after reading the post by fleetimus, I'm thinking maybe it still does. Unfortunately it's been sumbmerged in Lake Michigan along with the rest of the boat for a few years now.

Mine is uncovered in an open motor Jet... No problems so far. Where is the wood to knock on?

I have run 6al in all mine. The M boxes cannot be rebuilt either. ALs can. Just food for thought.

I've had boxs that were not rebuildable, replaced by MSD for a fraction of the cost of new, and distributors were like 75 bucks to make them like new.
