What is the difference between a 17-4 shaft and an AQ shaft? Which is the stronger shaft?

I think the AQ is the stronger shaft that they use in big hp applications.

I made a 17-4.
I don't know anything about the AQ shaft. PM V-Drive Tom.
I am sure he knows which one is better

AQ originally stood for Aquamet. Some AQ shafts are 17-4. Some companies use the term AQ but they are not really Aquamet.

17-4PH pump shaft material
The 17-4ph we use has a tensile strength of 176,000 psi, we have never had one twist. Every jet we sell has a 17-4PH shaft standard. Our replacement shafts are now 17-4PH priced the same as our standard shaft.

Aquamet 22 is stainless nitronic 50. It is not as strong as heat treated 17-4.

I have always been told that the 17-4 shafts that come stock in a Dominator and AT pump were stronger than the Berkeley Aquamet race shafts.
