My owners manual say straight weight 50W oil. That's what i've always used with zero probs, and the boat is a 1977 with a BBC in it.

With all the recomendations you can stand go to Synthetic 30wt or better That is if you really like you motor http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif I run a 30wt Mobil 1 in my 502 Mag seems to run with little more pressure and RPMs noticably increased.

Most marine engine manufacturers recommend strait 40W conventional oil. Syn oil is almost always multi-v. I've been using 20W-50 Mobil One with great results

I run 20-50 mobil 1 in everything during the summer. No problem. Great preasures even when running hard and hot!

I recommend a name-brand, quality synthetic base stock, single viscosity preferred. Warm up your engine (oil) thoroughly before the flat-out bursts, change frequently, good filtration, etc.

50 wt Kendal & HP6 Fram OIl Filter.
I change my oil & filter before every Havasu or River trip (twice a month) during the summer. Thats what I call cheap insurance.

If you change your oil alot you can use dino
oil in straight weight. If you are lazy use
multi- grade synthetic. My .02 cents.
