Is that really heat from the exhaust? Is this a top fuel boat?

I dunno,
That sure looks like a lot of exhaust for a boat that is just getting on the gas!

yes Kevin ... it's real ... Top Fuel Hydro at it's best!

Remember that you're only looking at about 150 ft. of exhaust, straight up ... the hill is about 2 miles back there, so the depth perception makes it look huge.

OH only 150ft? yeah that is nothing. I'm getting at least 200 feet of heat trail off my leaf blower :) :)

Yeah ... but we're not running Nitro ... I wish I was ... but there's that $$$ thing that's getting in the way!

You tow your jet boat running?

He just didn't want to get that Ming grass on his trailer, so he got a running start from the water.
He always does that...

I GUESS ALL THE COOL TECHNIQUES HAVEN't MADE THEIR WAY TO JERSEY YET...
:D :D :D
I gotta try that next time I put the boat in the water.. Must cut your warm up time in 1/2.

Must cut your wear ring in 1/2 also

That's the real deal my friend. A top fuel engine burns about the same amount of fuel per second as a fully loaded 747 but has four times the energy volume. The spark plug electrodes are completely consumed during the first half of the pass and the engine is dieseling on compression and exhaust valve heat the rest of the way. The white flame you see above the zoomies when they are running at night is raw burning hydrogen that has been dissociated from the atmosphereic water vapor by the super hot exhaust gases. Dragsters twist the crank (torsionally) so far (20 degrees in the big end of the track) that sometimes cam lobes are ground offset from front to rear to re-phase the valve timing somewhere closer to synchronization with the pistons.
A few interesting facts on fuel motors for ya.

You mean creating steam :D
Seriously, though.... Cool facts :)

Nice cut and paste, hipshot.

Yes, it is a cut and paste. Sorry, didn't mean for it for it to come accross like it wasn't. My apologies.
