View Full Version : swap your 496HO or 500 for a blown 517???

This is not a joke. I have a potential customer who wants a deckboat that
is available but doesn't need or want to feed a blown and innercooled 517 inch Chevrolet that is only about 2 seasons old. I am starting this thread to
see just how many of you would consider a swap. He intends to buy the
boat in question about the middle of December.
The engine was built 2 years ago for Dr Huffman here in Havasu and only has about 40 or 50 hours on it. It only makes about 4 lbs of boost so it runs on any fuel (almost)!!! The blower is an 8-71 Blower Shop and will make as much boost as you would require. Set up like it is, it should last forever.
If it's like other Blosdale engines it has Brodix aluminum heads with good valves, an innercooler, a Cola crank with Eagle rods, big pan, imco powerflow exhaust, crane hydraulic roller cam and rockers, a pair of Holleys
with Gaffrig flame arrestors, MSD, JE Pistons etc etc.
His goal is to swap for a fairly fresh-lower hour 496HO or HP500 or 525. He
doesn't want to spend any money either and so far he hasn't asked for any back to him. As far as I can see, whoever jumps on this will be getting a great deal. And of course, he's willing to let someone do a leak down or
whatever on the blown motor.
I'm curious to know how much interest there is on a deal like this so that I can advise him whether to buy the boat or not. Thanks.

Does he have two to trade???
With only one 496 and one 517, I suspect that my boat would be turning a lot :rollside:

I would consider swapping my newer 496Ho with 40 hours.

I'll make it real easy for him. I'll just swap him my deckboat with a 496HO, and he'll have exactly what he wants. :D No need to swap motors.

I have a 28' Advantage PartyCat in a storage unit in Havasu with a 500HP....59 hrs TT and would be willing to talk about such a trade.
The boat is like new and the motor was babied.....cuz you need one hell of a lot of HP to move a sled like this Party Cat!!!
Drop me a line if this works!

Hmmmm......sounds fishy to me!

From my seat, I would estimate that 60% of the men that own "hot" boats
want a big inch-high hp blower motor. Feeling just as equally convinced that
those 60% are crazy are the remaining 40% that have no desire to go fast
or deal with the extra work and/or money involved. My friend is of the 40%
that just don't need or want the headache or noise or worry that going fast
brings along with it! In this case, Dr. Huffman from Havasu sold this boat
about 6 months ago and is thinking about a pontoon boat for the kids. The
buyer apparently has the divorce thing going and needs to dump it. My friend would buy it for the asking price with a stock 496HO or 502 Mag or HP 500 or 525. So it's a no brainer. Why not swap. As I previously mentioned, both parties should have their engines leaked down etc as a minimum.
I know that Dr. Huffman drove the boat to the channel and polished it all afternoon on the few occasions that I saw him there. I know that the
new owner (fireman) never gets to use it so I think it could be a righteous deal if everyone gets on the same page. There's nothing in it for me either.
I'm helping a friend figure a way out of having to buy a Chapparal or Bayliner
deckboat. My payment will come the first time I see him smiling going 60 mph instead of 25 mph!

Keith is legit.(I have yet to hear one single bad word)
New buyer probably dosen't want crazy insurance premiums or a 90mph family ride.

We received our boat in July 2005, we have a 496 HO with 31 hours. I would be willing to swap. Our boat is in Parker and still under warranty.
