If you have the following breed/mixed breed dog, you are not covered if you file a claim for bodily injury/property damage......
1. Pit Bull, AKA American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier or Staffordshire Bull Terrier
2. Rottweiler
3. Akita, AKA Japanese Akita or Akita Inu
4. Bernese, AKA Bernese Mountain Dog, Berner Sennehund, Bernese Cattle Dog
5. Canary Dog, AKA Presa Canario, Perro de Presa Canario
6. Chow Chow
7. Doberman, AKA Doberman Pinscher
8. American Husky, Eskimo Dog, or Greenland Dog
9. Karelian Bear Dog
10. Rhodesian Ridgeback
11. Russo-European Laika, AKA Russian Laika, Karelian Bear Laika
Does anyone else have these exclusions on their homeowners insurance? Dobermans and Rottweilers?? Granted, Pitt's get a bad rap, poor things, and some of these dogs I've never heard of, but I think Cocker Spaniels bite more kids/people than Rottweilers..... (No offense to the cocker owners...don't shoot the messenger, just want everyone to be covered...)
BTW, I have a mean Weimaraner, but he's not on the list....

Small dogs might bite more but big dogs do more damage.
My company excludes:
Pits
Rotts
Staffordshire Terriers
Jindo
Akita
Chows
Persa Canario
The agent should have asked before they wrote the home. if you were honest they would tell you they don't have a market.
Most mainstream carriers won't touch these dogs

I don't have any of those dogs...I was honest. I have used AAA for a while, just wondering if others have exclusions...I guess it is a sign of the times....They are all pretty large dogs, except the pitts. One of those was the kind that killed the lady in San Francisco, right?

I met a lady at the beach that had one. I asked if the dog was good with kids / people and she said no. She said her's was because they had "conditioned" it since a pup. Beautiful dog.

Most of the dogs on the list typically have a strange temperment.
I have never owned a pitbull but have been around plenty and they are usually really really sweet or a little odd due to bad training.(I like pits and how smart/loyal they are but I wouldn't own one)
Same can be said for Rotts.... Great dogs if trained
My family has owned both a Husky and a Chow and they were great family dogs but a little sketchy around strangers.
Our Chow did not like Blonde women she went ape sh*t everytime a blondie besides my sister walked in the house....Weird
Our Husky was great around everyone but kids and small animals......We knew not to let her be trusted around children or cats
I am actually not familiar with quite a few dogs on the list....
This whole dog thing has really taken off in the last 5-10 years.Everytime someone wins a huge lawsuite you can almost guarantee that dog will be added to the list.
Unfortunatley back in the day when you got snipped at by the neighbors dog your parents usually spanked you for doing something stupid. Now they want to sue and own the neighbors house for some tears and a drop of blood.

Alstate is the worst. They have 15 breeds today on their list and will have 21 next year. I've had their home owners policy for years and now they say they can't cover me because I have a Boxer. But if i get a policy from LLoyds for the dog then they would cover the house.

We have had AAA for several years and I am not to familiar with the stipulations on the breed of dogs mentioned, but we have a 90lb German Shepard and they have no problems with our dog. Alot of dogs get a bad rap when it should be the owners of theese dogs who dont socialize them from a little puppy all through out there adult life. If any dog is just left in the backyard and never taken out to be around other sights and sounds and other animals they well become very afraid and not get along with anyone other then there family. All dogs must be socialized from the early stages especially the big boys.

So true. Our neighbor's fairly new 3 yo black lab bit my son's ear and head a few months ago (completely unprovoked) . Couple of deep scratches and a little blood. My neighbor's were very upset and apologetic but, most importantly, I think that they were really scared about what we were going to legally to them. They brought their dog to the pound immediately and I told them that was good enough for me knowing the trauma that their kids were going through losing their dog AND that there wasn't any negligence on their part.

I Have AAA homeowners and yes, I have the same dog exclusions.
It also forbid ficus or any type of creeping vine near or on the stucco.
My cat Meiko has bitten and caused more bodily harm to others than any dog in the neighborhood. One bite and it's straight to the emergency room for a "drip bag with a hot load of antibotics".
One more incident and the authorities are hauling him off to the hole.
"we also get those in here who believe the wifes tale it's good for a dog or cat to lick your wounds and cuts too."
They lick each others @$$ then lick the wound and infection sets right in,,, in minutes the emergency rm doctor tells me.
All dogs & cats bite.

Geez, we have a Rott, Bull Terier, and a Shar Pei, and I can't believe the Shar Pei didn't make the hit list. This is my second one, both were top blood lines, and both were/are very dog aggresive. They look real cute http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/886Kobeashiemarue-med.jpg but they don't like anything with 4 legs! Our rott & bully are females, so the "baby boy" puts up with them. It's funny though, when push comes to shove, the bully rules the roost. The rott and baby boy will run for cover!
You can always get one of these two breeds who are not on the list. They will eat your other dogs and then your good to go!

Funny thing about AAA, if you smoke they charge you more for your car insurance, but owning a cell phone is ok? I bet more accidents are caused by people talking on the phone that smoking. Maybe it is because the offer cell phones?
By the way, I don't smoke just an observation. And, I do have AAA :)

AAA is just trying to do what is right and that is keep "risk" at a minimum for their policy holders. It's good business practice and that is why they have good policies and excellent claim service.
As far as dogs go , $hit everyone I meet says , not our dog, he is a sweet baby and super friendly...wouldn't hurt a flea. You wouldn't trust a 70-IQ human with your kid so why trust a 40-IQ animal. Bottom line is that no one really knows what's going on in a dog's head at any given moment and how a dog is perceiving a situation. Therefore, it's doubtful anyone can predict their dogs behavior 100% of the time - I didn't.
Now take dogs that have been bred over decades to hunt, kill and fight and the likelihood of an incident happening (Risk) goes up. Personally I don’t want to pay to cover their cost in my premium.

My father came outside one time and saw two BOXERS chasing his horses in the pasture, He yelled at them trying to scare them away. Well they turned and came at him and made him climbing the pole fence and get on the barn roof. (kept him up there for a hour) They finally got tired of growling and jumping at him and went back to chasing the horses. Well the old man went back to the house got the twelve gauge and yelled at the dogs again to get away from his horses, the dogs charged him again this time he rolled them both. Killed the male outright the female was wounded and crawled under his house trailer. He called the cops, the cop (small town only one came) knew the dogs and hauled the wounded dog away. So don't try to put all BOXERS in the fun loving category. They were not bred for being nice and docile.

Anytime dogs pack and chase animals their personalities change. I've shot a few pedigree dogs that were chasing cattle. I even saw a poodle packed with 2 labs.
So one incident should not define a breed.

My Family (Mom) has had 2 Boxers over the past 5 years.
The first one was a bueatiful "Fawn" that had without a doubt the sweetest temperment and personality I have ever seen out of a dog.The dog was flat out amazing and like stated before would go out of her way to please/lick you to death.
Sadly the dog was stolen from her backyard (Chip/Registered) never to be seen again
Since my mom loved that dog so much she went out and bought another female pure bred Boxster. This time she bought a "Brindle" that has turned out to be a very different dog.Much - much more agressive towards other dogs and strangers. The dog is still sweet if she know you but is no where near as trainable/mellow as the first one.(She was the runt and ended up being 90+lbs)
I love Boxsters but I would not leave a smal animal/child alone with that og for a second.

Just to clarify a bit, I work in the Northern Cali AAA, and the only dogs we exclude are....
Rottweiler, Pit Bull, Doberman, Chow, Akita, Presa Canario, Wolf-hybrid.
Northern and Southern AAA have different guidelines, but I dont want anyone reading this in Northern AAA to get misleading info.

AAA's policy excluding Rottie's is the ONLY reason our house is not with them. After our beloved Jake Dog passed away I considered moving the house to AAA, but I know we will get another Rottie at some point.
I have been thinking about this policy though...I think I can shred the AKC Papers, and just tell AAA he's a "European Shorthair" (Mutt), tell them I don't know what breed he is exactly. ;) If they question it further I'll just claim he can't be German, because he's Black and Tan....probably British! :rollside: :boxed:

I have a Malamute, and he is the mellowest dog in the world. But if your little ankle biter comes up running and growling.....its on like donkey kong!
Now my female Rottie is the sweetest family dog in the world! She loves the kids, and can't wait for them to come outside so she can play ball, and have some company. But, she is their personal protector, and come man or beast, she will kill your arse if you come near my kids with anything other than the best of intentions! I don't know where she got it, but she seems damn near psychic when it comes to that.....and thats why I got her!
