I wanna put a biggeer motor on my 20" Lavey. Im lookin at a 2.4 Bridgeport Merc. I would have to sell my 1988 150hp Merc. The lower unit was rebuilt less than 20 hrs ago and at that time it received a major tune-up. I have about 5k in receipts. Let me know what y'all think.

I'll be the A hole here and tell you what it is worth. Just remember you asked.
First let me tell you that what you have in it does not make any difference cause it's still old and still a 150. Your lower unit will work for a while on a BP so pull it and keep for a spare. The rest of it should bring you 1500-2000.
You could get more by parting it out and listing it on www.screamanfly.com
Possibly.

Towndrunk, I truly appreciate your honesty. I wasnt expecting anything more. The previous owner dumped all of that $$ in repairs prior to my purchase. Why he did I will never know. Ive been told that I could get up to 3k for it complete. If not, oh well, I will have a spare motor in the garage.

I think the 150 lower is 2.1 gear ratio and the bp is 1.87. Big difference unless you have different prop pitchs to play with. 2.4 powerhead will fit a 150 mid, tuner is a little different but not that much to really worry about. Might be a little cheaper way to repower with re-rigging the boat. If the bp has an offshore mid then you need a external trim pump/lines, and trim indication. Is the bp efi or carbed? If efi then you'll need a different fuel pump set up. Gary

Not to high jack this thread but,
Ron, I have a" lh" cle that needs the upper driveshaft re-plated, it has a little pitting under the water pump impeller. Call me if you need one. 480-215-9669. Gary

I've run a 2:1 gear case from a 150 on my 260 for a couple of years and it's fine. I swapped out the bearing carrier for Wayne Taylor's heavy duty carrier. It wasn't hard to do and everything else is the same between the cases.

Find a hull that needs the a motor, put your motor on that and you might be able to get a little more for the entire thing.
Just an idea. Wider market base with a complete turn key boat.
