A Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority officer arrested a man for selling a token at face value.
2 guys on their way to work were having trouble getting tokens from the machine at a station vending machine. They finally got the machine to dispense 5 tokens w/ change from a $10 bill.
This gave them each 2 tokens for their round trip with 1 left over. Another guy who also was having trouble getting a token from the machine asked if he could have the spare. The 1st guy said sure and handed him the token. The guy gave him $1.75 (Face value) and said thanks.
As the 1st guy picked up his work bag a MARTA officer confronted him and when he admitted giving the token away for its face value, he was arrested and handcuffed.
He was held for several hours after being charged for illegally selling MARTA tokens. The news and everyone got on the Authority over this being a very chickenshiat thing to do.
MARTA held their ground on principal that they are ripped off for big bucks on "stolen" tokens each year.
Well everyone felt this would surely be thrown out of court instantly but at yesterday's arraignment the judge decided they would need to proceed with a trial.
Poor guy could face 1 year in jail plus fine.
And they wonder why people don't use mass transit.
