Split prop shaft

I have never had to deal with a split prop shaft. What's the atvantage?

Thr prop shaft is 2 piece, a long piece 1 1/8" through the log and the whip strut then a coupler a short piece through the prop strut then the prop.
Is the advantage replacing a shorter prop shaft ????
