I have been running a Bravo 1 with all of the Teague aftermarket parts and it has broken twice in the last there years. I was thinking of getting the imco extreme advantage SC drive complete with upper and lower unit. This seems like the way to go using the XR gears. I wanted to get the bigger prop shaft with it. The drive is on a 26 Howard cat with a blown 572 (1000HP). I wanted to know what people think of the IMCO extreme advatage SC drive. I also wanted know about X dimensions, shortend drives on the Howard if anyone knows. I have a lower case with nose cone,HD verticle shaft and other parts I want to get rid of.

A guy that used to be on this board a lot has one in a 26 DCB with a blown 540 Ford. He told me in Havasu in May he was happy so far with his SC. He's somewhere in the neighborhood of 1100 horsepower if I recall.
What kind of speed are you seeing with that cat? Are you happy with it?

M&D Cat,
I run the IMCO SC drive in my DCB Mach 26. My motor makes over 1000 HP. I have had no problems. I run a stand off box, 2 inch shorter lower and use a 1.25 gear ratio.
I highly recommend this drive.
I do know that IMCO is close to releasing a new drive. It looks just like the SC only it has four gears in the upper unit instead of three. The drive doesn't shift, it is always in forward. However, the drive is run with a stand off box and there is a tranny in the box. This provides the shifting and allows a high idle motor to be put in gear softly. This new set up will be awesome.

Riverliver thats a nice lower unit wink
I have a Inco extreme not a SC I pulled the prop off last week when I changed my oil and bumm me out all my prop shaft splines are twisted oops I wonder how that hapend??
What do you Guys use for water to run your boats in the driveway with a low water pickup in the nose cone? I use a rubber garbage can but you have to squish the crap out of it and take off the prop to get the lower unit in there. Any help??

I just use one of the rubber boots that fits onto the nosecone with a garden hose attached. Works great for running the boat and pissing off the neighbors! Those boots are available at lots of marine shops, or mail order from Eddie Marine, CP Performance, Rex Marine, etc.

I heard that the one in the datona didn't have clutches as they used a trans. Rumor has it the drive welded it's self after that one run. Proably why Powerboat never did get that top speed. What ever you guys do, be sure you run water through the drive. I know two people why ruined their drives by just dumping the water into the sea strainer or intake hose.

CraigOut at Parker it runs a little over 100 MPH. I am happy with the boat now that I have it. The motor has been great I would reccomend them to anyone. M&D performance in Corina built it. Here is there WEB site you can check it out.

Why would running water through the sea strainer and not the drive hurt the drive if you had it in neutral so that the gears weren't turning? I just had a nose cone installed on my B-max and I don't see how to get water to it anymore without going into the sea strainer. Thanks.

Hey Robbie, FYI the gears are still turning thats why it would be a good idea to have water running through the drive as too cool what little their is but most of all have oil in the drive, some misconceptions have been that the oil is not needed, but the main gears spin anytime that engine is turning over or running, it just disengages the lower from the upper.
you can get a low water pick up hose adapter from most boat shops and even West marine, hell best bet would be to call Eddie Marine in So. Cal and have them ship you one...Just thought of CP Performance in Rohnert Park,CA their near you? Or close enough
Good luck

Hey I also have a 26 Howard cat and took SVO 540's advise on getting a Imco SC. I had a Teague platinum but it blew in about 6 hours. I switched to Imco with the 1:34 gears and blew it in 2.5 hours. I sent it back and they said a gear tooth broke and locked it up. They stepped up and fixed it but when it locked up it exploded the u-joints and tore the bellows and rammed the foward shaft into the gimble bearing. I'm still waiting to get the drive back. Now I'm so pissed that I'm selling the boat. I like the boat alot but I hate the fact that I cant go out and enjoy it because of fear of blowing the drive up constantly and leaving me stranded. If you know anyone looking for a Howard cat let me know.

Chet, thanks for the explanation. That makes sense about the upper gears turning even when in neutral. I called Eddie Marine, West Marine and CP Performance and they didn't have the "drive flush kit" for the nose cone drives with the low water pick up. I also called Rex Marine and they did have it ($28.88), so I ordered it from them. Thanks again, Keith

What do you Guys use for water to run your boats in the driveway with a low water pickup in the nose cone? QB]I picked mine up at Alco Marine in Havasu. Although you should be able to get them just about anywhere. Most places will carry them for the Outboard Low Water pick-ups and the sales person wont realize they are the same thing.
