I really like your 2600 cat, and I was hoping to get one to do about 80 mph for about this same price if your still offering it?

I got the add out of me brand new Hot Boat from June 1994. So I'm hoping FasCats can still honor that price. If anyone is interested in there 3100 CAT, on the same add, they offer one that will do 100mph and it only cots 90k. Not bad huh? Well. If that price for the 2600 is a little out dated, I'm sure FastCats would give us some sort of Hot Boat deal.....right? haha!

I think he's already building me a 31' as a Christmas present...
...although I'm beginning to wonder if it will be ready in time, because he hasn't even asked me about the graphics yet. Hmmmm...

HH, I'm workin on it!
You know, it's actually kind of cool, That ad just shows that while there's been a lot of "cats come lately", American Offshore has been around for quite some time! We already know what some have yet to learn!

this really brings up some interesting stuff....
i'm quessing that this product in todays dollars might sell for about $65,000 give or take....roughly twice the 1996 price...
what would a car that cost $35,000 in 1996 cost today???
has any other product or item doubles in price over the last 5 years??
is fiberglass more expensive???
are engine parts more expensive???
is labor more expensive???
i know in my sector (medical products) nothing has doubled in price..
i certainly know that my salary hasn't doubled!!!!!!

Sould the price include better quality. Trucks that we tow the boat to the river/
lakes have increased about 15 percent and the quality has improved alot. Gmoicnk has a good point.

Hi Guys,
There are things to consider here:
The engines in the 35k price were Merc. warranty take outs, they were sold to Ed at a reduced rate( the current owner at that time ) Ed then would repair the engines and install them in the unit without a warranty.
The 35k did not include options such as bezels, trailer, decent exhaust, sst prop, scoops, carpet, cover, etc...
Merury has improved their engines and drives tremendously in the last eight years, Things such as EFI,xr drives, ... they have also gone up in price tremendously.
The thing that has changed most in the last eight years (June 94 (not 1996) means that the ad was placed in feb/march 94) is that the change of ownership has also brought about many changes in the company. Better fit & finish, we now color sand and buff every boat before it leaves, something never done before. Far better rigging than in the past, (I sent jimbo (boatnam) pics of our current rigging and he saw the difference.
Our interior has changed tremendously, better materials and again far better fit.
All of the better fit & finish requires better craftsmen to apply such, therefore larger wages and benefits.
Materials in general have gone up as well and we are using far better materials, things like S glass instead of e glass, 30% more expensive but 20% lighter and 35% stronger, Hence the better speeds achieved today! We also use 2408 biaxial material, again far stronger.
We have much more overhead today as well, we're now in Texas, no longer Oklahoma, the EPA is very visible here and there are more expenses as well, The federal government did not have the restrictions then as they do now and especially not in Oklahoma!
The price was a price to get sales and then add ons were attached.
Bottom line, Far better boats at a still very inexpensive price. You pay for what you get! We're still known as one of the fastest cats around and we live up to it every day and as the name implies, we're built for the rough stuff. Todays HP 500 boat runs around a documented 88 mph, atleast 2-4 faster than the others. Our 26 is considered a 28 with a swim platform.
Sorry for the long post, but there was not a simple answer.
Scott

i should have stated in my last postr that my comments were not necessarily aimed at the ao folks..they just happened to be the topic of discussion...
it really does seem in general that the performance boating dollar does not go as far these days in comparison to other "hobbies" i.e drag racing....i can build an 8.90 pro comp car for about the same money...if not less today than 6 years ago....
but fastcats...you are correct....good stuff costs money.....life sucks that way!!!!

What did a 30 cat other than an AO cost back in 1989? 1990? 1991?

HBjet

In 1990 32' Skater (I'm assuming without motors) sells for 72,420. There 21' Skater without trailer or motor sells for 23,700.
In 1990 Thunder Bolts 24' Lightning Express Cat with twin 200 Mercs speeds were around 80 mph and it sold for 39,900.
In 1990 the Warlock 25 SXT Cat which would do 80 mph sold for 37,200.
In 1991 the Talon 25' with a top speed of 84 mph sold for 66,725.
In 1991 the Motion 25' Cat (looks just like a Skater) with twin EFI 2.4 Mercs and a top speed of 98 mph sold for 60,000.
In 1991 the Express Marine 31' Cat with twin Merc 502's and Bravo One's has a top speed of 84 mph and sold for 126,000.
In 1991 the Tantrum 25' Legend Cat with 365hp 454 Merc and Bravo drive had a top speed of 63 mph and sold for 49,500.
In 1993 the American Offshore 3100 Cat "Guaranteed 100 mph" "Prices start at less then $90,000 complete for 100 MPH - GUARANTEED!"
Well, not only are these prices old, but are half of these boats still being made today? Anyway, when it does come time to but a cat, I'm going to be looking into the AO 2600 first. For that size, I don't know anyother cat that can perform in the ocean just as well and that's what I'm looking for.

Hangin,
What Color bezels for the cleats and gauges?

Havasu Hangin'

I'm kinda partial to white gauges with blue. Are those pop-up cleats and flush mounted lights?
What kind of swimsteps you putting on these days? Mrs. HH likes the sunpad and swimsteps, so we gotta think of her.
Does it come with an inverter? I like mixing "smoothies" in the blender. There's a guy on the board with a small generator in his 21'- can one fit on on my 31'?
