Stupid Question about my jet

I have a berkeley JC pump and am mating the bellhousing to it. There is a flatspot on one side of the ring that attaches to the bellhousing. does it matter which direction this goes on?

Are you talking the "relieved" portion of the bottom clamp for a Berk 3 point mount?
As I recall, it goes toward pump. Hold it under the pump thrust bearing retainer with the rubber band in place. Then see if it hits the web of the pump where it comes out to support the thrust bearing. I believe it is relieved to clear this web.
