I started my time on Lake Havasu in the late 80's on a 1969 Schiada 20' jet boat. That was back when 20' was large enough for Havasu. We used to leave the Beachcomber at 5:30 a.m. to go skiing during the summer when you could still get glass on the lake that early in the morning. What was the first boat that you ever drove/got a ride on in your life?

That I can remember was the aluminum rental boats at Castaic, Used to rent them when the fisheman came back and go out with beers & friends & cruise the lake at a high rate of speed. That was about 100 years ago when I was a kid.

I think my dad had a galaxie (70's) and his friends had stokers.
I bought my first boat in '89, (mastercraft).

Buddy of my dad's 1968 or 69 Nordic Flatbottom I think and it was at Perris....around 7 yrs old, 1975 ish........after that day trip, my dad lost interests in the MX Bikes, and we got into boating full fledged and have never looked back.

That was a pretty sweet boat in '72.
For me, it was a wooden boat my Grandpa built and my Dad modified so he could put a 40 hp Johnson outboard on it and get it planing. It was the very late 60s.

Early 70's in fiberglass/wood 13 foot runabout my grandfather built (!) from a kit. It was designed for a 25 hp O/B and he reinforced the transom for a 50 HP Merc. He built it in mid 50's, great little boat.

I think it was a mid 50's all wood flatbottom v-drive. Hemi powered. Used it in Havasu all the way up until around 1990 till we retired it. Ran like a champ till that day too. I learned to drive and ski with this boat. Used to get a lot of looks when we used to lope through the channel. Its still baried in my granmother garage in Palm Springs. Someday i'd like to dig it out and restore it.

I dont remember the make of the boat. Only that it was a flat bottom v-drive owned by my god parents. My parents thought I was having a good time, laughing and all until they turned the boat off to find i was screaming out of fear. I was very little. 1 or so.

I am not sure of the year, I think maybe 60's or early 70's Honda Flatbottom by dad had that he and my mom both raced and we used on the river. Silver Metal Flake, the Silver Bullet it was called. I can still hear that thing purring today! Loved to drive that boat, hated when dad drove. I knew when he was gettin on the down I was in trouble. Woo Hoo. :220v:

It was a 1963 Glaspar with a 4 cylinder 2-stroke McCullouch outboard engine. Boats name was (Sun Fun) I was about 4 months old when I first went for a ride in that board in Parker at the river house in 1968. My grandfather was the owner. That was a awesome motor it ran forever!

1970ish flat bottom jet that my neighbor had. I was about 13 or 14 when I tagged along with him out to Bullhead City for the weekend. If I remember correctly he had a blown 454 in it, the thing was all motor and the first time he "punched it" with me in the boat, the boat launched so hard that my seat bracket broke sending me into a head over heels summer sault out the back of the boat .....just missing the headers....... I think I skipped across the water 3 or 4 times before going all RAG DOLL and almost losing my shorts!!!
I popped up out of the water to see my neighbor cranking the boat around with the most horrified look on his face...I think he thought he had killed me. Only had a few scratches and bumps but man that was one hell of a ride. After that my neighbor felt so bad he would do anything for me....he ended up being my beer supplier thoughout most of my high school years and he was always pimping me out to his wifes hot friends.... :crossx:
All and all I was hooked on boating and the River :D

My parents were already well-established river rats with a semi permanent trailer at Echo Lodge when I was born in '66.
They have owned 15 different boats over the years but the first one would have been 16’ 1965 Glass over wood Flattie with a 100 hp merc. I remember it would start backwards for reverse.
This brings back the memories -
Who knows of or remembers Ski Land? When we weren’t at the river we went there. Growing up every weekend consisted of boating somewhere. I better call my pops (now 68 years old) and thank him again.

Unless we are counting paddle boats, canoes or the Mackinaw Island Ferry, it was a 1973? 16ft? Sea King Surfer runabout. Mercrusier I/O, think it was a 4cyl. Probably 1977 or so. That was the boat that got me interested in boats anyway. It was grandpas' boat.

Spent the summer of 75 in Mackinaw. Friends dad had a SeaBee and gave flying tours of the bridge. Watch him water ski behind it one day.
My first rides was on some type of Tri Hull with a 100hp outboard. In a small lake in Indiana.
