Im getting the 32 foot force offshore cat. Does anyone reccomend standoff boxes. Would it make that much of a difference? Any info on pros and cons would be appreciated!

Hey Mike, Im getting the standard cat without the canopies. Im going with naturally aspirated twin 598's. It should be done in 5 weeks. Its popping out of the mold today so im going to go check it out. I guess no one has a take on standoff boxes??? I guess I'll take my question to offshore boats as it seems they all have stand off boxes. You going out memorial day??? I'll definitly be there with Dano from Force. Gonna load up the boat with 5 unleashed hotties and pass out some gear!

I'll give you a little feedback on standoff boxes. I would definately get them for a 32 with twins. From my understanding, the boat will ride less in the water, thus picking up speed and allows for more trim control due to the setback. I also think they look bad ass. IMCO all the way! I would get some with a rise and about 9" setback. That seems like a pretty popular setup. Plus then you have your external steering on the stand off boxes and the transom on the boat is super clean.
Did Charley just get them on his new DCB 29? Calling out Charley for the expert opinion.
Good luck and can't wait to see pics.

Yes I got them.... Dave suggested them and although I don't know exactly how they affected my ride, I am happy with the ride I got! wink

I understand the whole concept of less wetted surface area leading to greater speed, but how far less do you go before the performance is hindered?
I mean, the boat has to be somewhat level in order to be "packing air" correctly, right?

Thanks for the input. I'll keep my options open but it looks like I may go with the boxes, besides I have to try and keep up with damn Charlie! wink

Those ITS gimbals are pretty slick. External steering built in (ala #6 drive) plus some setback as well. I don't think they're quite as far set back as the IMCO boxes though. Just another option...

I have a 25 ft.Eliminator v-bottom with a WPM stand off box...Since I have owned the same exact hull without the box,I can honestly say that there is a lot of differece...and it's all good :D
I talked to the factory and they told me that a stand off box puts the prop back in cleaner water (less disturbed),raises the X-dimension(i.e.more speed) and you need less positive trim,so that the drive is in a position to push the hull as opposed to trying to raise the bow...
Gary Kincaid (Showtime Marine,Havasu)recently explained to me that a stand off box absorbs some of the torque from the motor to the outdrive as well...Hope this info helps.
Since Dano used to work for Eliminator I'll bet he saw quite a few boats go out the door with stand off boxes.

That answers my question...

You have to make sure you get the right box though. Some will lower the x dimension. Due to the angle of the transom, if you use a neutral box, it lowers the X, you need to use one that I think, is a 4 degree up. The box get the prop cleaner water. Same idea as a notched transom. Remeber though I think when you go to the extension box you have to go to full hydraulic steering because the slave Cylinder postion on the steering is moved.

I have the ITS drive on my 29' V and am happy with it. I think it has about 7" of setback which is less than most standoff boxes, but I am happy with how it works. My motor is mounted about 3" higher than the same boat with a std drive. The hydraulic steering is built into the drive and really cleans up the transom...
Good luck with the new boat..

Thanks Steamin, Im sure I'll probably do some ocean runs as well. I have to get used to the twin engine thing first.

Hey Deano, what happen to your boat(Dano's boat) during the poker run? Everything cool?

Yeah everything is cool. Believe it or not it was the drive hub. Its this little rubber ring that goes in the drive. It broke and shook the engine all to hell. Its only a 20 dollar part but you have to pull the damn drive out to change it. Pissed me all to hell. Sucks getting towed for about 45 minutes. At least we didnt grenade the engine or drive! :)

$20 That's the cheapest boat part I've heard of. :D At least you had plenty of Force boats around to tow you in. I noticed you guys stuck together, even during the poker run.

Unleashed,
Small world,I have several relatives that live in the canyon(Tijeras)...
btw,I actually met you at the RRX regatta,at the sandbar. You were beached next to Locogringo,I pulled up with Instigator in his Nordic.
We'll have to hook up in Havasu this summer, discuss location of relatives,Tijeras isn't all that large...

Cool brother, We'll definitly have to hookup at the river. How far a drive is that for you?? My relatives settled that whole area up in those mountains. To bad they werent smart enough to hold on to the land. The government wanted to build that highway and basically took that land. We'll talk about it at the river! My boat should be ready in 6 weeeks.
