We brought the pontoon boat back from Havasu last weekend to start the Stereo System Project!! I spent two days pulling wire through the hull and installing the amps. The next step will be building the boxes for the 4 12's and the pannels for the mids and tweeds. I am still wating for a deal on batteries for the power. I will update this thread for the next three weeks to show progress. This thing is going to be sweet!!!! http://usera.imagecave.com/kreger/DSC02389-copy.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/kreger/DSC02388-copy.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/kreger/DSC02390-copy.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/kreger/DSC02391-copy.jpg

Looking good, I think we have the same head unit, is that the 300 or 400? I got the 400 and I am going to install it with the Sony iPod interface this weekend coming up, can't wait.

Yes it is the 300. I am looking foward to using the Ipod directly into the Aux port as well.

I would go this route for the iPod,
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-jT0PFiaeTlb/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=770&I=158XA110IP&search=ipod+sony
That is what I did, can't go wrong for $79.00. I mainly did it so I can control the iPod from the remote on the swimstep, no need to get back in the boat to change the music.

I have not tried it with the remote yet (only with my truck head unit) but it will let you skip to the next song, raise and lower the volume and some other stuff. The remote I have does not have the GP/ALMB to change the artist, playlist, but just being able to skip to the next song with out having to get in the boat is going to make my life much easier.
I am installing it this weekend, so I will come back and report.

I installed the Sony iPod interface last night and used it today on the boat. I am very pleased with it so far. It is not as slow as I thought it would be. Changes songs faster than when you change playlist, I still need to read on how to browse thru the artist and playlist before I can say any more, but so far, so good.

I am going to start out with 2 Odyssey 2150's and a charger from West Coast Batteries. Then next week I will have a 175 AMP Alternator dopped in @ Quality Power. They are also going to put in a relay that disconnects the cranking battery from the system of the setup while the ignition is off. When it is running, the relay will automatically connect all the batteries to get a charge.
I imagine a generator is in my future, but I will see how this holds up. I hope for 2- 3 hours on the of play time on the shore and hopefully the alternator will take up some slack while cruzzin'. Puttin it in next week. I have to put together the boxes and paint resin on and cover them. Should be hearing it in two Weeks

The System rocked this last week in AZ for almost 3 hours. After that, it was never the same. The amps were cutting out and the volume was not as good. I believe 115 temp outside and low voltages were my issues. I have not purchased a high AMP output multi stage charger nor a Generator at this point, but it is obvious it is going to be one of them. :)
I put an inadaquate charger in the evenings, but still it did not find its potential the next day. I appriciate all the advice everyone has offered up. I am almost done. Thanks

Thanks SWB! That is a good idea to buy time against dropping the cash all at once. Just ordered a APS-75 and a wall receptical from Zeroniose.com Thanks Wet Hull/ Thanks SWB :)

If you get a Cascade APS, you still need to get the Iota IQ Smart Charger to be able to use it now as a charger, don't you?

WETHULL? Do you want to answer this one?

If I understand correctly, you can use the Cascade to charge your batteries, but in order to use it as a three stage smart charger, you need the Iota smart charger along with it.
Good news is, I don't think it costs much.

Here is the link to the smart charge module

Boatfloating knows these systems well, if you have questions that aren't answered, check with him.

I was talking to WET HULL about the APS 75 he uses from Zeronoise.com and it was my understanding that I could use the unit to charge the batteries with a cord and a polar wall receptical they stock. I did not think I needed anything else.

From what I understand, the Cascade will charge your batteries, and then drop down to a safe "float charge", that is safe, and won't boil your batteries, but with the adddition of the IQ4, you gain the additional benefit of long term storage charges.
Here is the advantage of the IQ4 from the Iota website:
Will an IQ Smart Charger help me?
The IQ controller is ideal for batteries that are not in use for months at at time by providing a charge cycle approximately every seven days. This promotes longer life of the battery by reducing "sulfating" of the plates.
If the Cascade has the IQ4 built in, that would be great, but if not, I would add it.

Goodstuff!! I will add it if it is not included when it gets here. :)

Call Cascade and they will build the charger with the IQ4 built internally for you. Then you do not have to plug it in each time. The jumper just plugs in to get you 14.4 volts (turbo mode). I bought one for a charger and in the future might get a gen. It works great for a charger.

Does anybody make Extension cords for this type of Plug? Thanks

I actually bought all the items at Lowes. I bought a polar female that the charger plugs into, then 2' 12/2 extension cord wire, and finally a standard 3 prong male. Basically an adapter from polarized to standard plug. I then use a heavy duty extension cord. The charger works great. You'll love it.
