I will be upgrading the heads on my motor soon, it is a relatively stock 325hp hardin marine motor with smog peanut port heads which will be replaced with a set of 049's[ thanks Slotracer]. Is there a preferred heads gasket set for jetboat motors or any to stay away from??

Use fel-pro 1017-1 BL

I am having no trouble with Fel-pro's for my Mk IV 454, main thing is tom ake sure the Mk combination setup is right. I understand the old heads fit fine on a Gen motor but require different gaskets.
Yep, 1017-1's are likely what I got, bolt em up properly and run the snot out of em. :)

The official "marine" one tho per Fel-Pro's data is the 1037 which claims to fit all Mk/Gen blocks too, just like the 1017-1

I run the Felpros as well blown w/ 10:1 dome pistons no problems yet.

do you have to run marine head gaskets?

No. Just get the right ones for the head block combination as there is some mix/match capability among the Chevy's but it gets picky at the gaskets. I do not know what the successful head/block matches are, but there are threads on it all over here.
